Ravenblade still has a slightly glazed look in his eyes, perhaps from all the burn injuries or perhaps from something else, something within. "Yes Kyra! Together we can do this if we stand firm. Well said Mal! Your faith shines clearly this day! By Moradin's grace, Stonehammer and Overlook shall not fall!" he calls out and makes as if to start walking towards the inferno.

OOC: Looks like we can all make it tomorrow after all. Should we stop here then?

OOC: If Salazar rolls well we can stop here. It'd be nice to wrap up this fire.

Salazar whispers a few words in Draconic and suddenly his dragonling familiar springs forth and draws some of the fire into itself.

Ravenblade watches as Salazar and his dragon pet somehow coordinate to help put out some of the flames. He looks towards the eastern side of Stonehammer where the inferno rages on despite the best efforts of his companions. Already some of the flames that were put down into a smolder are simmering up again.

The dwarf ranger, longtime follower of Melora, he who had turned his back on his clan which had forsaken him, slowly turns around to look at each of his companions in turn, nodding to them.

He thinks back on how he first met them, starting with Daggoth Varkash and Mal Geminous who were fighting overwhelming odds in the Elsir Woods, with whom he so easily flowed into a coordinated battle with. Salazar Miller, dubious fire fanatic who seemed to skirt the darkside of evil until he forsook his pact with a devil. Hedoni Mindartis, flippant, intelligent fey who follows style more often than common sense in battle. Each of them unlikely to have ever been his friend, had fate and the need of the Elsir Vale not brought them together. Each of them having saved his life numerous times and he theirs.

He turns and looks at Kyra, wondering for a moment if their might have been a future between them and marveling that his reason to stay in his clan back then for as long as he did is now also the reason why he must return to some of his old ways.

Turning back to the inferno, Ravenblade focuses all his senses and being on the heat. Watching the flames, breathing in the fumes, feeling the essence of it. Gripping his hammers tightly he begins running back towards the inferno. "Forgefather! Hear me! I, Arombalosh, son of Angrosh, known as the Ravenblade beseech you! Grant me one boon!" he shouts. Having gathered enough speed he jumps up onto some fallen house debris just in front of the leading flames and vaults off high into the air.

"Quench this infernal fire and protect this haven of your beloved people! I give myself freely for this!" he continues in a booming voice, as he sommersaults neatly over dozens of flames, arcing far onwards towards the depths of the raging fires. As he begins his descent, he bellows, "Grant me this boon and I pledge to protect and defend your faith and all those in need henceforth! I shall be one of your Hammerrrrrrs!!!!!!!!" With his last word, more growled in bellow than spoken, Ravenblade lands on the ground, his arms swinging downward. As he lands, he pounds his craghammers with all his strength and conviction into the ground, pouring every fiber of muscle into the effort. The impact creates a large depression of cracked stone that circles outwards along with the beginnings of a rush of air.

Salazar calls on his dragonling. The tiny creature flits around, inhaling a good portion of the flames.

Ravenblade decides it is time for drastic measures. After glancing at his companions and Kyra, he calls out to Moradin, pledging himself to the God of the Forge. Ravenblade's redemption comes swiftly and painfully. A blast of hot wind rushes over all of you as Moradin's bellows shape the flames. The fire blows and twists toward the ranger and he feels his entire body become white hot.

A moment later the fire is completely gone. Ravenblade looks different, charred. His hair is darker and his clothes are burned, from the inside. Ravenblade realizes he knows how a piece of molten steel feels after it has been forged into a weapon.

The group gains 2500 experience. Group total is 123,500. Level 11 is at group 130,000 = 26,000 each.

After the all fire is gone, the city is eerily quiet. You all feel the exhaustion of the long day. Was it only yesterday you returned from the Mountainroot Temple? only two days ago that you rescued High Ancestor Durkik from the gang of dopplegangers? Weary from so many brutal fights and long travels, you decide to return to the city headquarters for some much deserved rest.

You come across Elder Cadrick in one of the corridors of the High Hall. He looks as beaten up as you feel. He listens to you story, raises an eyebrow at Ravenblade, but instead of commenting on the ranger's new appearance, he says "I have something that might help." He leaves and come backs a moment later with an inky black cloak. He holds it out to Hedoni, "It sounds like you could use a bit more protection out there."

The next morning you head out to a spot where you are told a squad of Overlook soliders disappeared.

You easily find the area and begin to fight two dragonborn in heavy armor, one wielding a pair of broad-bladed katars, and a large, red-scaled firebelcher exhaling large puffs of smoke. After a few minutes of fighting, you feel like things are well in hand until a massive beast soars over the rooftop, knocking several of the stones from their place.

What appears to be a dead dragon, its scales dull, its gray leather skin showing between the gaps, rises into the air on broken wings. The entire top of its jaw is missing, showing upward pointing teeth and a wormlike tongue that thrashes about with a mind of its own. And riding atop that beast is a humanoid figure clad in heavy hides, contained within a body harness of iron joints and leather straps. His limbs and face are gaunt, nearly desiccated. Several old wounds hang open, leaking trails of blood and puss, showing bare bone in some spots and metal plates in others. But despite his old injuries and deformities, his narrow features and his yellowed, leathery skin clearly mark him as one of the dread githyanki, raiders and conquerors of the Astral Sea.

The general flies off the dragon to a nearby roof, but between Daggoth forcing him down to the ground and Ravenblade's hammers, General Zithiruun doesn't last long. His dragon fares a bit better, but after Mal rallies everyone to focus on the beast and Salazar blast the undead creature with several rounds of radiant explosions, Mal finally kills the dragon.

OOC: The group gains 6,100 experience

Once word of Zithiruun’s death spreads through the invaders, they gradually break off and retreat back into the wild. Most are mercenaries, after all, and there’s little point in fighting on behalf of someone who’s too dead to pay.

You learn later that Kalad lead a host of dwarven priests to fight and vanquish a horde of trolls at the city gates. The paladin emerges from the battle as a spiritual leader for the entire city, diminshing High Ancestor Durkik's influence and creating a new bitter rivalry within the Church of Moradin.

Overlook has weathered the storm, and though damaged, the city stands tall and proud. The Liberators are hailed as great heroes, and several different establishments offer them free room and board for several months. The sorcer's guild presents Salazar with some very expensive looking Drowmesh Armor. (Laughing Death Drowmesh Armor +3). You are invited to dine with the Council of Elders several times over the next couple weeks and you take your fill of excellent food and drink.

And thus does the curtain fall on the Liberator's heroic tier. Greater dangers and challenges await, as those behind the githyanki’s efforts plot their vengeance and advance schemes of which you have not yet learned. Sarshan is still at large and thirsting for your deaths. But for now, at least, you have earned a couple weeks of rest and the acclaim of Overlook’s citizenry.

The group gains 2,500 XP and 7,000 gold for completing the major quest. and as reward for the saving the city. The party reaches level 11!
Let me know if there is stuff you want to do in town. If you want to write up your ascention to Paragon path, feel free. Please send me your new character info and update your stat blocks. The adventure continues ... here

A week after General Zithiruun is defeated and things have calmed down a bit, Kyra seeks out Ravenblade. She is clearly nervous, not knowing what to make of his new appearance, but she foreges ahead "Arombalosh, I wanted to thank you, and your companions, for saving me, and the city. I didn't want you to think me ungrateful." Her words sound rehearsed and her eyes flit around, looking anywhere but on Ravenblade.

""Oh! Uhm, ungrateful? No, no, why would I think that? In fact, I thought you were very courageous to try and put out some of those fires." Ravenblade says, obviously uncomfortable and looking a little confused.

"Hmmmm....so, how have you been since....err, since I left the clan? What have you been doing? How is your husband; any children yet?" he asks very quickly, mentally knocking his head with a craghammer and wishing he'd paid more attention to how Salazar uses words as deftly as any hammer-wielder.

Kyra laughs "Children? You're funny. I only left Hammerfist six months ago. And no, there's no husband either."

She takes a more serious tone, "So you've really been killing trolls and orcs and ... dragons? Somehow I never really saw you as the violent type. I always pictured you living off in tree house, alone in the woods somewhere."

"Six months? Well, it was a lot longer for me. Yes, although I never expected my life would turn this bloodthirsty, things didn't quite work out the way I imagined. Well, at first it did, when I was with Durendal, but then there was this attack...." he trails off, a distant look on his face. Focusing, he looks Kyra in the eyes. "You know, why don't we talk about things over a meal and some mugs of fine drink. I know a nice place in Stonehammer if it hasn't burned down."

Kyra answers "I'd like that." They set off to find an establishment that still standing and somehow manage to keep stocked with food and drink. Once the sit down, it doesn't take the two long to get reacquainted. Kyra tells Ravenblade about her blacksmith training, her grief at her sister's death, and her mixed feelings about the Hammerfist clan. Ravenblade listens attentively. When she asks about his recent adventures, he tells her how he got caught up with Mal, Salazar, Hedoni and Daggoth. He also shares his story of how Kalad ordained him as part of the New Order of the Sundered Chain.

The hours pass like minutes. Soon it is late and Kyra is saying goodnight. "This was nice. I hope I get to see more of you now." Before she leaves Kyra, hesitates, smiles in a satisfied way, and then gives Ravenblade a quick kiss.
