Demuriath nods silently, standing in the shadows.

You pick up your things and climb back up the blood soaked chains. Above, in the cathedral chamber, you notice that the three humans that were kept unnaturally alive are now dead and no more blood is flowing from their bodies. You make your way past the rooms of dead undead on this floor and back up to the first level. Just in case, you flip the lever there to deactivate the rune plates and then head south to the Chapel of Bahamut.

You again notice the stark difference in here as everything seems cleaner and more peaceful. Moving around the large statue of Bahamut, looking up, you notice that dawn has broken. As you enter Sir Keegan's crypt, it appears as if he is expecting you, for he once more is standing outside his coffin.

"My cold heart would beat in excitement at the sight of you, if it could. I sensed a change in the flow of power within the keep a while ago. I hope this means good tidings?"

Edeya says simply "We defeated Kalarel and shut down the portal. We also came across what appear to be some personal affects of your family." She shows him the items they found.

Sir Keegan listens silently to Edeya and then simply stares at her and the objects she holds out to him. Several minutes pass before he responds. "It is good that Kalarel has been stopped and the portal sealed once more. Would that I could have done the same centuries ago, then more than just a few trinkets of my family would have remained."

He steps adjacent to Edeya and she almost steps back at the sudden sense of death and coldness from his presence. Sir Keegan gently fingers the thin platinum bracelet with the name "Ceinwein Keegan" inscribed, then the doll and the hairbrush. "Ceinwein was my daughter and this was the brush that my wife used to comb her hair. Ceinwein would also use it to brush her doll. At least I think she did. It is...hard to remember." He then lifts the wooden toy sword and it looks somewhat absurd in his gauntleted hand. He looks at Azad and notices the amulet she is wearing. "Drystan was such an energetic boy. We gave him that amulet because he was such a sickly child and it was to protect him. He always played at being a soldier and was a favorite among my men, even when....when.... It was my men that valiantly tried to save my son from myself, so much did they like him."

He steps back and looks away, silent once more.

"Is there anything else we can do for you?" Edeya asks.

Despite the coldness of undeath emanating from Sir Keegan, Edeya can sense his strong feelings of guilt. She thinks back on the poem of the keep, written by Melgold, that Valthrun gave them in Winterhaven and recalls all the messages written in blood in various rooms within the keep. It seems clear now that the first half of the mad poet's piece refers to Sir Keegan, while the second half must have been written as some sort of prophecy, considering that the poem is many, many decades old.

Sensing Edeya's scrutiny and only now registering her question, Sir Keegan turns around. "You have already done more than enough by preventing Kalarel from completing his ritual. For that, I thank and honor you. Until such day that this bastion is renewed to it's glory and strength, I fear I must linger and do what I can to prevent future attempts at rending the rift.

OOC: Feel free to look at the poem and read the messages in the links to piece the details together. Maybe it will give you some neat ideas of how to help Sir Keegan, either here and now or in the future and with others aid.

After many moments of silence, Sir Keegan bows low to the group and then straightens. "I thank you, Heroes of the Keep. Ha! That's not very dignified sounding, now is it. Perhaps you ought to give some thought to a more glorious name by which you may be hailed. Perhaps "The Bringers of Light" or something in that sense. Nevertheless, you have my gratitude and surely the gratitude of all Winterhaven's inhabitants, who would have been the first to fall victim to a wave of darkness." He looks at Demuriath direcly. "I thank you especially for wielding Retribution how it was meant to be used. I am certain the Lady of Death condones your actions battling the minions of Orcus. Perhaps one day you will unlock the secrets of your blade." (see here)

His demeanor becomes more solemn. "Sadly, although I believe you chose wisely in spending the night within the keep and pursuing Kalarel, I sensed undeathly powers at work near Winterhaven. Things may not be as expected when you return." His words bring back the unpleasant memories of the nightmares each of you had when you spent the night here. see here... ...here... ...and here

OOC: If the nameless party is ready to head back to Winterhaven, just let me know with a majority. I suggest you come up with a group name at this point. Feel free to discuss.

Demuriath gazes from Sir Keegan down to his blade, head bowed. He says nothing, but his eyes confirm that he feels greatly honored.

OOC: Ready to move on.

Harkin fidgets uncomfortably, although he himself remains quiet.

He is ready to get out of this stuffy tomb, and feel the breezes of the surface world and feel the grass between his toes.
