Without a DDI account one couldn't update the OffC anyway.

Even if WotC never adds houseruling to the OnC, we can either add a non-numerical feat offline, or redo it to take out the houseruling entirely. Yes, it will mean remaking some characters, but that wouldn't be the end of the world.

Exactly. Since the OffC has been laid to rest and is not being updated anymore, we're all "stuck" with their last version. It's a very good version though, with lots of included material, and more than enough to have a fun game.

Some DM's could decide to disallow any source material past Psionic Power which was the last main book to hit OffC before they stopped supporting it.

Or we could take out the free houserule +1 attack feats from the OnC like you suggest. I recall somebody suggested compensating for this by instituting a +2 attack 24 hour bonus instead and not allowing ANY expertise feats.

The attack bonuses is just one aspect though. The Essentials builds are quite different and have several new power choices. Should we be mixing Essentials with "Classic" in party groups? Does it make a difference or imbalance the characters? I think it would be fine, but guess that we won't know until we try.

We will be testing that in Eberron, since both Gary and I are changing to essentials builds at the next break. My feeling is that since for those, we HAVE to use the OnC, it might be better to transition the whole thing in that direction, maybe in between adventures or something (or as needed).

Thinking about it, as the free expertise feat just means slightly more powerful characters, we could also just nix the houserule completely, and have players redo their feats, and adjust the level of the encounters accordingly.

I don't see a problem with mixing Essentials and non-Essentials characters. They're different, but seem equally as effective.

I'm for going forward with the new builder. The latest patch added exporting of characters, so that's good, and added the newest Essentials book, so they seem to be on track with content updating. I say we either just have people take the new expertise feat and not take but then note somewhere a non-math affecting feat they also are taking. Or just nix the houserule and make people pay for the expertise feat, depending on the DM.

It actually doesn't affect me that much. I use Combat Manager for everything anyways and it imports powers but not power descriptions from the character sheets, so I have to type those in. I mostly use the CB for making sure that my math is right and to make characters.

For ease of use, I am thinking of removing the houserule feats for FR and having everyone switch to OnC. I will just scale encounters accordingly. Nothing, however, will be done until the end of this dungeon, at least.

WoTC just updated a bunch of races with the newer "one fixed and choice of two others" style racial stat bonuses.

Of particular note is that there are FINALLY not one but TWO Int/Con races, warforged and genasi. This will be of great interest to Curator and Sentinel. :)
