Garnash readies his attack for the moment he can see Yellow, but his dragonfrost fizzles as it hits the battlement in front of the dark creeper (superior cover). Yellow returns fire with his longbow, sending an arrow into the Dragonborn's arm for 7 damage.

Purple can't get a shot off at all, but Blue takes aim at Laz while Red shoots for Alfred. Neither, however, can find their targets.

OOC: Mike, yellow was down 10 after Alfred's last attack.

Alfred all but hurls his tome's page along with the psychic bolt against the most injured creeper above. A trail of flames follows in it's wake. He then returns to the relative safety by the door they came through.

Standard: 1d20+8+1=29, 1d8+5=6 Phantom Bolt vs yellow, +1 24h, vs Will, sliding it off the parapet
Free: 1d10=4 CRIT tome extra fire damage
Move: to 007

OOC: Phantom Bolt CRIT yellow for 13 psychic and 4 fire (total 17) damage, sliding the creeper off the parapet hopefully for an additional 3d10+ damage.

Alfred explodes with psychic energy, hitting yellow with a bloodying shot and dragging him forcefully toward the edge of his battlement. He all but falls over to certain doom before catching himself, however.

Gharnash's attack rings true - first the blue creeper is hit hard with an icy blast, then he stumbles backward and falls from his perch, taking an additional 14 damage. He's alive, but prone on the ground and covered in his own blood.

Red moves up to the spot blue was occupying, and fires an arrow at the dragonborn, which Gharnash easily dodges. Yellow stands up and also takes aim, and misses as well.

Purple takes his only shot, at Laz, and hits the gnoll for 13 damage, even with his improved defenses. Blue stands up and shoots at the first target he can see, Curator. Even given his recent fall, his aim is true and the warforged takes 6 damage.

OOC: I was thinking of enlarged grasping shadows them to damage and slow them. It would give us another round before engaging. Assuming they don't all have bows.

Curator comes very close to hitting his target, but his bolt sails just over the creature.

They guards continue their sprint up the stairs.

Gharnash takes aim at Yellow and hits it hard for 16 damage. He's unable to pull him off the battlement, however he does knock him down (saved from falling).

Each archer takes aim at one of the party. Red shoots at Gharnash and connects for 12 damage, bloodying the Dragonborn. Blue and Purple shoot at Curator and Laz respectively, but neither comes close to hitting. Yellow takes aim at Alfred and seems, at first, to connect. But the Human's shield springs to life, deflecting the arrow at the last minute.

Alfred opens his tome to a black, writhing page and sends forth the shadows that grasp. All three oncoming guards are enveloped in the darkness, their minds and bodies assailed. The ground around them remains wreated in crawling shadows, threatening any that enter. Alfred takes a step back once his task is done.

OOC: Grasping Shadows creates a burst 2 zone that lasts UENT Alfred. Anyone entering the zone takes 4 psychic damage and is slowed until end of their next turn.
