OOC: Might be nice to take an extended rest before we leave, since we have a 3 day walk back to the portal.

OOC: If we're traveling overland, I'd like an extended rest before leaving town. Otherwise, I have nothing more to do in town.

"Thank you, Constable." says Alfred with a noticeable capitol "C". "We did indeed find the object we were tasked to retrieve. We will likely rest in Twinmarsh one more night before heading back home."

OOC: Yes, extended rest before returning. Unless Mike wants to zip ahead and just assume the return trip was uneventful.

I'm leaning that way, but take your rest in town. I don't think they'll put two and two together about the missing gold just yet.

The group slips out of town at sunrise, catching the first carriage back to Rivervale. The driver, happy to have paying customers, drives straight through, and you arrive in town late the same day. After a bite to eat, the group heads back to Rivervale's temple of Avandra and the teleportation circle. As promised, the mage in charge needs only to see your signet rings and he sends you through to the Wisenstone circle in Occident.

You're all surprised to see Artimus there waiting for you. "Welcome back. Come, let's go back to the library. I trust your mission was successful?"

"Yes, Headmaster," Curator 143-Theta replies, "we have retrieved the necklace. The 'ghost' was merely a human using a magic amulet in improper ways. We turned him in to the local authorities."

Artimus looks over the amulet, turning it in the light of the setting sun coming through his window. "An interesting find - great powers in this tiny vessel, but crafted in haste - seems it would cause as much trouble to wear it than to go without. Alas, those without much power will often take it no matter the costs." He then puts it in his robe pocket, out of your view.

Turning to you, he says, "You all appear to be in decent shape and decent spirits - I hope the outing wasn't too taxing. I'm sure, however, you all need some time off. I have another mission for you, but there is some time to spare. Let me know also what you think you may need from me for your next adventure, now that you've had one and used some of that classroom education in the real world."

"A-ha, ha! Too funny, Headmaster. Classroom education...real world..." laughs Alfred, but stops when he realizes that nobody else is entertained by the headmaster's word choice.

"Ah, well, it was a most illuminating experience, albeit quite hazardous to our health. I'm, err, now realizing that I do not like the sight of my blood flowing freely down my robes. Regardless, I have managed to document some fascinating details on changeling and dragonborn behavior in the wilds." he says, contentedly tapping his journal book. "I look forward to further investigation of the subjects in question and, err, rather enjoyed their company too."

"It may be wise to recuperate somewhat before heading out again, and I can think of a few useful items that could come in handy for other similar ventures. Speaking of which, Headmaster, I, err, really think I could make good use of the Pyromancium Aetherium during further travels. I seem to be developing a strange affinity for fiery conjurations and summonings."

"Also, if it isn't too much trouble, I was wondering if the polarity of my tome could be slightly adjusted to allow greater versatility in handling the threats to come. I would like to be as ready as possible for things to come."

OOC: Translation: Hoping for a Tome of Replenishing Flame +1 and change of implement to Tome of Readiness. I assume we could purchase/craft other items.

Curator 143-Theta scowls as Alfred mentions enjoying the company of the changeling and dragonborn.

"Typical," he moans. He mutters none-too-quietly, "What am I, a rusty helm?"

Alfred's eyes open wide and he looks embarrassed at hearing Curator's words.

"Uhm....errr..." he stammers.

"I apologize Curator. I, uhm, also took several notes on the fluidity and pivoting mechanisms of your construction design...uhm...yes..." he says lamely.

"Nothing I couldn't handle, Headmaster. However, there was this staff I saw just lying around that might come in handy the next time I have to rescue everyone."

OOC: Staff of Ruin +1, please. =)

"I believe I will begin carrying a crossbow, Headmaster," Curator 143-Theta says. "These daggers just don't have the range or impact required."

Laz glares at Alfred, saying to the professor, "Thank you, sir. I don't think that mission was too bad."

OOC: Not sure what I want yet. I am going to get the full CB today, so I should be able to at least see what other items are out there.

OOC: Figured I should point out I want a *superior* crossbow, not a regular one. I just didn't use "superior crossbow" in conversation because, well, it's a crappy name. Seriously, they couldn't have called it an "arbalest" or a "dwarfmade crossbow" or something?

OOC: I agree on the naming. I think it would be cool if you continued calling it arbalest actually.

OOC: I think I will refer to it as arbalest.

Wikipedia has a cool article on the arbalest, explaining how much stronger it is than a regular crossbow. :)

Artimus watches the group interact for a few moments, and smiles to himself knowingly. When they've all stopped talking, he continues.

"Mr. Sartanius, our library has but two copies of the Pyromancium Aetherium, and I'm afraid we need them both. There is a shop in town, however, that surely has one, for I requested they keep it. Make your way to Goshawk's - It's not displayed for sale, but I believe a show of your ring and the right amount of gold will earn you a copy. Bring it to me, and I'll make sure the polarity is to your liking."

"Curator, I believe you're uniquely qualified to use a crossbow - perhaps an arbalest? There are some fine pieces in our own armory, but I'm sure you'd prefer to choose your own from the shops in town. Likewise for you, Gharnash and Laz - there are some fantastic items available outside the school, and you'd prefer the variety over what I could offer, at least for the time being."

Artimus goes silent again for a moment, then adds "You've done well, and I believe you're all ready for your next adventure. I believe also that a few days rest and study will help you all with where I'm sending you. Your commitment to the school and our purposes are duly noted. With that, I will see you all back here in three days."

Artimus is going to let you all buy/make the magic items of your choice, in case it wasn't clear. Feel free to go with anything you can afford, up to level 5 (which you'll need to pool funds for, but that's up to you if your characters want to do that). As a point of reference, I'm thinking that magic items below level 10 or so are commonplace enough not to attract the attention (or collection) of Wisenstone, and are therefore available for sale if you can find the shops (most big towns will do you well).

With the end of the adventure, you've all reached level 2. Congrats! Send me your character sheets with magic item purchases (if any) and changes (if any), and hopefully we'll start Monday or Tuesday.
