"Hedoni, does this jog your memory of those books you read in school?" Mal asks the wizard while pointing at some symbols.

Religion aide (+5 skill, +3 Jalissa, +1 24hr) (1d20+9=17)

OOC: Not sure if the +3 counts for aids. I included it. If yeas, its a 17, if no, its a 14. Maybe Mal can aid Hedoni in religion, Daggoth can aid Salazar in History and Ravenblade can aid Hedoni in Dungeoneering.

"Hmmmm....."

history OR religion aid (1d20+2+1=4)

OOC: Since both religion and history are the same for Rav, thought to give you guys options since we can't discuss in person. Failed either way. Hedoni can't roll religion AND dungeoneering in one round, so let's focus on one then the other. I'm content just rolling aids for the whole challenge. Also, since it will be the same for Daggoth, and Marek usually posts last, he could roll two aid rolls when it's his turn (one for the current round and one for the following round) to speed things up.

"Hmmm. Not sure I've seen these before..."

Religion check: (1d20+1=7)

OOC: So that 7 is +3 for Jalissa and +2 for Mal and +12 for me for 24 total?

Hedoni looks carefully at the carvings around the outside of the door. Jalissa points out a particularly distinct image of an eye hovering over a sword "Yesm here, this is a classic example of ancient Iounian art." The wizard recognizes the style of art from the course he took called "Ancient religions: Why we're better off without them."

OOC: Jalissa's +3 to religion checks no do not help with aid attempts. Also, Hedoni has +12 to Religion, so his total roll should have been 1d20 +12 + 3 (Jalissa) +1 (24hr) +2 (Mal's aid) for 24 total.

You step carefully inside the door and into the darkness. Once someone provides a light source, you see an odd carving in front of you.

Salazar examines the carving. "I can swear I've seen something like this before at Olorin's," he muses. "I know! It's a textbook example of Neo Post-Classical Retro-Modernist Anti-Reactionary Iounistic art!"

Jalissa looks impressed "Oooh, I've never seen a Neo Post-Classical Retro-Modernist Anti-Reactionary style of Iounian art before. I've only seen samples of the Post-Classical Anti-Reactionary Neo-Modernistic school of art. This is wonderful." Then she turns to Daggoth expectantly "What do you think?"

I forgot to announce it at our Sunday session, but Gary, Nathan and I are going camping this week. We're leaving Tuesday morning, back Thursday night.

Daggoth blinks blankly a few times, then smiles "Art or some sort of face shaped puzzle? Not sure, you've got the brains between us my sweet." he says with a chuckle.

Still, Daggoth racks his brain for anything he may have overheard about this area or the symbols. He scratches his chin with his axe while lost in thought.
Gears in his head turn slowly but methodically, and he recalls a few tidbits of information that someone who can see the big picture can piece together.

"Yes, that does sound vaguely familiar." comments Ravenblade about Daggoth's tidbit of religious knowledge. "Although, come to think of it, I may have heard it one drunken night while camping with Durendal and he's notoriously impious."

Daggoth, buoyed by the presence of his loyal admirer, is able to aid Salazar with some historical tidbit and even Hedoni with some religious knowledge.

For the moment Ravenblade is no help deciphering the odd carving on the wall.

Daggoth remembers that he's seen this bizzare face before and than it was overlaid on a compass. He suggest that maybe this carving has something to do with directions.

Salazar agrees and remembers an ancient legend about a time when Ioun was a cold, aloof and distant, seeking only to maintain the integrity of magic. As such, she had no true allies or enemies, but wanted only to know as much as possible about the universe and its inhabitants.

In the beginning, to gain more information about the world, Ioun asked for the holy land-surveyor to map all of creation for her. This surveyor was the great geographer Ppizte who measured the leagues. He set out across the world and marked the leagues with his walking stick. He made a map and learned that the dieties Ix Noh Uc, Ox Tocoy-moo, Pauah Ek and Ah Miz presided to the east. Batun, Ah Puch, Balam-na,Ake and presided to the north. The dieties Iban, Ah Chab, and Ah Tucuchpresided to the west. Ah Yamas, Ah Puch, Ah Couoh and Cauich presided to the south.

He realized from the direction the tongue is sticking out that they should start by heading east. The group proceeds for a few minutes east before they come to a junction in the maze and t another mural on the wall.

OOC: Mal can do one more Religion aid for Hedoni before the wizard makes his skill roll.

Mal says, "I KNOW I have heard those names before. And I definitely saw this face somewhere. Look at some of these details on the headress. There look to be elemental symbols, wings and beaks." Turning to Hedoni, he says, "What does all of this mean?"

"Of course! It's all so simple. Turns out I didn't sleep through all of my Ancient Mystical Lore classes after all!"

Religion check (plus 3 aids and 24H): (1d20+12+3+2+2+1=34)

OOC: I think that's probably fine even if I don't get all those modifiers, just a couple of them...

"Ah yes! I see what you mean Salazar. I do recall seeing some similar wall carvings in a cave deep in the Elsir Woods once. The tongue-like protrusion at the bottom is particularly interesting and indicative of thirst for knowledge."

History aid. (1d20+2+1=16)

OOC: This history aid roll is in round 3 to help with Salazar's round 4 attempt, since he already succeed at history in round 3 without any aid.

Mal and Hedoni recognize the symbolism in the carving and understand that the elements refer to the compass as well. Jalissa helps translate some of the more obscure runes. She reads "The red wild bees are six in the east. A large red blossom is their cup. The red Plumeria is their flower. " Hedoni understand that they need to head east for six paces and stop before the image of a plumeria plant.

You follow these directions and halt at an intersection in the maze before a mural of a red plumeria. Salazar remembers that the ancient word for plumeria also means "turn left", so you do.

Then you come to another crossroads and see an image painted on the floor. Ravenblade points it out to the group.

Mal can tell that the image on the floor resembles the other Iounian art, but is a newer style.
