Mal feels the sting of acid and then waits for his friends in order to better coordinate their attacks.

Delay Action: Until after Daggoth

Save vs. OGD and -4 to AC (1d20+1=4)

OOC: I am confused. Was it Mal or Salazar that the acid missed? I rolled a save anyways, just in case. Which is a failure, of course. That is my 4th straight save failure, at least. Might be 6th straight. Since all of my useful actions are dependent on other people being available to act, I am delaying. I rolled my save before I decided to do this. Should I keep that roll or try again after my actions. Obviously, I would like to re-roll, but whatever. And I assume I take the 5 damage now, but not before I actually use my turn.

Salazar, unable to move or act, waits as his mind begins to clear.

First, Mal feels the sting of the dragon's breath for 5 damage. Then unsure of how to proceed with so many of all his allies stunned, the warlord waits.

OOC: The dragon used two different acts, a fear attack and his breath weapon. The fear attack hit Salazar, Ravenblade and Daggoth. They are stunned, which lasts until the end of the dragon's next turn, and have a -2 to attack, save ends. The breath weapon hit all but Salazar. The breath weapon did 11 acid damage, plus 5 ogd and -4 to penalty to AC, one save ends both.

Also Mal delayed his turn. Technically the roll to save should happen at the end of Mal's turn, but since he rolled it already, the failed save vs ogd and -4AC will stay and he should not roll that again until his next turn.

Ravenblade grunts in pain and shakes his head, trying to focus. He resists the urge to tear off his chainmail as the acid eats into his skin. "Nevermind long teeth and fire breath! No amount of platinum is worth enduring this pain!" He tries to desperately shake off the caustic liquid before it does any more damage, while also banging a fist against his head trying to re-align his senses.
As the pain subsides, his vision also clears. Seeing the situation before them more clearly doesn't change their dire circumtances in the least. "Hmmmm....this should be fun." he says with a sigh and ignites his lightning craghammer with a though, readying himself for the next attack.

OOC: Will be busy later in the evening. Critical save vs OGD and -4 AC!!!! Ravenblade's flesh expunges all traces of acid and he gains +20 regeneration per round! Hooray! He also saves vs stunned. Technically saves should be the very last thing, but the free action to light the craghammer kind of fit better at the end.

"We don't like you either!"

Unsure about this whole dragon business, Hedoni surveys the situation and decides to pull out the big weapons first. He calls upon his god, musters his strength, cracks his knuckles, calls upon Ravenblade's god, then lets loose with an explosion of thunder that squarely hits the dragon, knocking him back.

Hedoni is so proud of his attack he doesn't manage to shake off the effects of the Dragon's breath.

Free Action: Arcana, History and Nature checks.

Hedoni, still covered in the dragon's acidic spew, takes 5 damage to begin. He gathers his strength and sends a torrent of thunder at the beast. The dragon tries to cover his ears and shouts "Hey! That was loud!" in a pouting tone as he is pushed several feet back.

Hedoni searches his memory for anything helpful about dragons. He remembers an old legend about how an eladrin hero defeated a very young dragon. It went like this:

"Once upon a time, a queen's crown was stolen by a young dragon - snatched right off her head. The queen was heartbroken and offered a reward for the return of her precious crown. Several adventures tried to retrieve it, but they either returned badly burned or not at all. Then a handsome eladrin bard sought out the young dragon in its lair.

"The hero realized that the dragon had surrounded itself in shiny, noisy things of varying value - mirrors, tin cans, copper kettles, and polished weapons. Once the beast noticed the intruder, it belched its dangerous breath and warned "These are my things! Not yours! All mine!" in a juvenile tone.

"Thinking quickly, the bard summoned all his confidence and charm and said to the dragon "What about a trade?" He brought out a pair of bright silver finger symbols from his pack. The beast was mesmerized by the light flashing off the polished metal and the pretty, clear sounds coming from the small symbols. "I want it! Give it to me!" The bard replied calmly "You give me that old, quiet crown, and I'll give you these shiny, tinkling finger symbols." The dragon quickly agreed, happy to have his new plaything. The bard then slipped out of the lair with the crown, returned it to the grateful queen and was rewarded handsomely."

OOC: With a crit history check, I had to come up with something good. :)

Ravenblade holds his ground as he begins to clear his mind, shake off the acidic residue and ready his craghammer for battle.

Mal has assessed the situation and decides to act. He yells out in fury, staggering the dragon slightly, and then leaps over the river of acid to cut into the black scales. The warlord then calls up more reserves and swings his glaive high over his head, cutting deeper and causing a wound to open that the others can focus on.

Minor Action: Unbalancing Infernal Wrath (+1 to att enemy that hit since last turn and all allies have combat advantage until start of my next turn; Hit: +3 damage)

Daggoth's head is swimming in confusion after the dragon's assault. Thw world goes numb and even small movements take great effort, as if he were swimmng through thick mud.

He musters up enough strength to wipe of a glob of casutic spittle.

Daggoth can't do much, but he is able to fight off the effects of the dragon's fear attack and breath weapon. save vs -2 to hit (1d20=16)

Unlike most of his companions who are rooted to the spot, Mal bravely jumps into battle. First he retaliates with a direct hit to the dragon's tail. He then whirls around and strikes again for a total of 26 damage. The beast seems annoyed, but not serious injured.

The dragon moves closer to the group and says "I'm going to hide from you." A zone of darkness descends, blocking line of sight for those outside it and blinding those within it. Finally the beast claws twice at the vulnerable tiefling for 10 damage.

Salazar unleashes a burst of flame through a portal to the sixth hell, singeing the dragon and revealing its location in the darkness. He then curses his newly-visible opponent - "Draxos mav los v'tar!" - before hurling another bolt of flame the dragon's way. Finally, he moves and fades into the shadows.

Standard action - Vestige of Ugar centered on G6, including Dragon and Mal in the zone.

Hits Reflex 18 vs Dragon for 20 fire damage (16+4 from WS), and hits Reflex 14 on Mal for 16 fire damage. Each creature that enters the zone or starts its turn there takes 1d10+3 fire damage. Creatures cannot benefit from concealment while in the zone.

Salazar mutters some dark words and flames spring up all across the small island. The dragon and Mal are quick enough avoid the fire for now. Salazar then sends another jet of fire and this time the black dragon takes 27 damage.

"What do you think, Dragon? You hide, and we find you! Will you give us back our things now?"

Overwhelmed by strange darkness and fire on the island, Hedoni shoots a blast of flame of his own toward the island, hoping to hit the dragon. He also sustains the thunderball he created a few moments earlier. Finally, he is able to shake off the effects of the dragon's acidic blast, but not before taking some more damage.

Standard Action: Cast Scorching Burst at Black Dragon, targeted at E5.
Minor Action: Sustain thunderball.

Scorching Burst: (1d20+9+1=21, 1d6+8=12)
Save from effects: (1d20=18)

Scorching Burst hits Reflex 21 against the Black Dragon for 12 Fire damage. Thunderball is sustained in E5. Creatures leaving E5 take 5 additional Thunder damage.

OOC: I'm a bit lost on all the effects happening at the moment, so I'm just hoping that hits, and that the very polite DM will add/subtract all necessary modifiers.

First Hedoni takes 5 damage from the lingering dragon's acid breath. Because the dragon is mostly focused on Mal, Hedoni has combat advantage. The beast is not quick enough to dodge the wizard's firey spell. The creature whines "I don't like all this fire. Why so much fire? It burns!" as it takes 16 damage (I believe 12 from Hedoni's spell and +4 from WS).

Ravenblade kicks his heels dramatically while he activates his wavestrider boots. He then miraculously walks over the acidic water into some remaining darkness right by the dragon. He tries to smash his craghammers into the behemoth four times, but isn't quite sure of his success while being blinded. "Damn creature is bigger than a house and I cannae even hit it!" her grumbles in frustration.

Jaws of the Wolf on Black Dragon (base 10/9, +1 24h, +2 ca, +4 damage from WS) (1d20+10+1+2=28, 2d10.minroll(3)+7+4=22, 1d20+9+1+2=20, 2d10.minroll(3)+6+4=26)

OOC: Forgot to include the -5 for blindness while in the zone on Jaws of the Wolf attack so: 23 vs AC for 22 damage and 15 vs AC for 26 damage. Half damage on a miss for each attack. Thundertusk presumably misses with both attacks, but Ravenblade gets +6 HP from Mal for using an action point. Not a very good turn overall.

OOC: I have a question for Gary: Why the hell was the Vestige of Ugar not centered on E4? I don't really understand the purpose of enveloping the whole island when there are people on it and the only way Daggoth can get good attacks in are by being very close to the dragon. Was there some advantage to having the potential of killing Mal? (If you had hit Mal on the initial attack, that would have been 8 damage, plus 5 on going from the dragon and up to 5 more from the VoU before I even got to heal would have dropped him...as is, Mal will be taking 5-10 damage before the next turn starts because of you).

OOC: I was trying to get the dragon off of the island. If the island is still somewhere he can be comfortably, then he can just fly back and forth across the acid forcing you melee types to take tons of acid damage to keep up. Also, I posted my idea in the strategy thread. I assumed you figured your fire resist would protect you from my spell when you went onto the island.

Ravenblade confidently strides across the stagnant water and enter's the dragon's zone of darkness. Eventhough he cannot see the large lizard, he manages to hit on his first try for 24 damage (22 from Jaws, including WS, plus +2 from lightning) which leaves a large bleeding wound on the dragon's leg. As he pulls his weapon back, he grazes the beast's skin for 13 damage (half damage from Jaws including WS).

As the dragon begins to bleed, the acid in his stomach begins to churn and he instinctively shoots out a caustic belch. Ravenblade is again covered in the beast's acid bile, taking 12 damage now, plus 5 on going damage and -4 penalty to AC, save ends both.

Although he gains some strength from Mal's prescence (regain 6HP), Ravenblade's other two swings miss the beast entirely. The dragon seizes the chance to hit back. His tail lands squarely on the dwarf's head for 9 damage.

OOC: You missed the half damage from the second Thundertusk swing and the lightning damage.

I remember that from the S&T thread, Gary, but the situation has changed slightly. I also understand the idea that since Mal and Daggoth have resistance, it is ok, but it seems like we should still try to reduce their time inside the fire.

OOC: I didn't think you guys all jumping onto the island to flail at the dragon while blind was the plan. At least now the dragon is visible. I thought the idea was to avoid being on the island at all.

"Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!" screams Ravenblade in agony as he is enveloped in a cloud of acid. Convulsing involuntarily in pain, he clenches his teeth hard and hisses, "I...am not in pain....just that....breath is.....awful!" but it doesn't really sound that humorous all things considered.

OOC: I think the total damage from Ravenblade's attack was 37 from the Jaws of the Wolf attacks only, if that helps.

Daggoth pulls out his hand axe while he circles around the acid pool.

"Your mother was a newt, and your father is now a pair of boots! Give us back our cart you worm!" Daggoth hisses in Draconic.

Stopping not far from Ravenblade, he lets his axe fly.
