Hedoni runs back towards Salazar, Daggoth and Mal.

Kalad, unworried, moves towards the escape hatch and gets ready to climb up.

The boiling water moves up another five feet. Salazar is pushed up and is now level with the stone walkway.

Mal: 10/40, bloodied, running
Salazar: 3/46, swimming, bloodied
Ravenblade: 33/47
Hedoni: 9/36, bloodied, +2AC

OOC: Once Salazar is pulled out of the water, he should be fine (he will be able to make double moves before the water rises each time). That means Daggoth or Mal will be stuck swimming a bit. Is the damage considered fire or non-fire heat? Because the one way, Daggoth and Mal are particularly well-suited to stay behind slightly. If one of us grabs Salazar, then they could swim from T3 to Y8 on the next turn and someone could pull them out and drag them up the stairs before the water rises again. That way only one turn is spent in the water. And Mal and Daggoth both have good enough Athletics where the swimming should be trivial.

OOC: The boiling water causes regular fire damage, so Mal and Daggoth both have some measure of protection. Daggoth has more HP though.

Daggoth moves just past where Salazar is treading water. He reaches in and unceremoniously grabs him by a flailind arm and pulls him out of the scalding water.

"This is no time for a bath" he says sarcastically. "Get moving"

Moving to T3, yanking Salazar out of the water.
Even if I am in the water next turn, its 5 ft deep, that's not swimming depth is it? Would I have to make a swim check or would it be considered just difficult terrain?

Daggoth moves near Salazar and pulls him out of the water.

Two fresh drudges appear from the far tunnel and, oblivious to their leader's demise, advance on the dwarves.

OOC: Thats a good question. Since Daggoth is 6'6'' and weighs over 300 pounds, would moving through 5 foot-deep water count as swimming or moving through difficult terrain? I think I'm going to let Gary decide. He's our rules lawyer and has real world experience with this sort of thing.

Salazar: 3/46, bloodied

OOC: I'd call Daggoth in 5 foot deep water moving through difficult terrain and not swimming. I don't actually swim until a pool gets 6+ feet deep.

"Hey, Kalad, we seem to have some last minute visitors."

OOC: Hehe. I didn't get the whol "real world experience" thing until now. I'm feeling a little daft on just four hours of sleep. What's with the suicidal drudges. I guess Kalad and Ravenblade will have to stay to secure the hatch. Sorry about that, I was hoping to help the group with Ravenblade's water warlking.

Mal, running hard and ignoring the pain, hears a splash. He looks back to see his cousin floundering in the hot water only to be pulled out by Daggoth. Realizing he can do nothing to help those two escape from the rising water, he shouts, "Salazar hurry up and get up here! Daggoth, the water is rising to fast for you. You might want to swim across!" With that, Mal runs up the next set of stairs, muttering under his breath, "Damn dwarves always making things so large!" He then sets himself up to grab Daggoth, should we swim across.

Move Action: Run to Z7

Standard Action: Second Wind (Spend healing surge, gain 10 HP, +2 to defenses)

OOC: I am assuming I can cut the corner from Y3 to Z4. If I cannot, I will use a double move walk to go to Z9. If Daggoth decides to swim across to Y8 (see below), I think Mal should pull him out of the water and drag him 2 squares to the stairs, then Hedoni should drag him 2 squares up the stairs or something along those lines.

If Daggoth does wade through, he will constantly be behind the water level (as in he will have to wade for 3 rounds). After the first, I think the farthest he could reach is Z5 on a run. That will then fill up before his next turn, where he could make Z12 on a run. Then the water will fill again. I don't know how much the ramp to the center ring goes up (or how fast), but presumably that will fill somewhat and he will have to wade for 1-2 more turns. So that makes 3-4 turns taking damage and moving slowly. If he swims across the corner from T3 to Y8, Hedoni and I can grab him and drag him up the steps, so that by his next turn Daggoth is above the water level.

"Thanks, Daggoth!" Salazar tells the dragonborn. The mage then catches his breath before dashing up the next set of stairs. Seeing two more drudges on the top platform, he curses the nearer one.

Standard action - Second Wind, healing 11 HP.

Move action - Run to Z3.

Minor action - Curse Green Drudge.

OOC: while I know within the game rules I can swim a ways, my char would never try to swim wearing scale armor and carrying a large waraxe. On a double run I think I can get to z6, then to w13 on the next turn.

Mal moves to Z9, positioning himself to help Daggoth if needed. As he runs past the tunnel, he notices a scrap of paper on the floor. (It'll be a minor action to pick up the paper.)

OOC: Sorry, no, you can't cut the corner like that. Only if there was normal ground at Y4.

Salazar steadies himself and moves as fast as possible up onto the next landing.

With calm determination, Ravenblade hooks his craghammers and readies his longbow. "Kalad, I bet you don't see many dwarves doing this." he says with a grin as he lets fly two arrows almost simultaneously. Both projectiles prove to be deadly as they pierce the orc drudges in the center of their necks.

"Please handle any additional visitors should they appear unannounced. I will go see if my assistance is required by the others." he says over his shoulder as he runs towards his companions.

Twin Shot (base 5, +1 24h, +1 prime shot bonus) (1d20+5+1+1=24, 1d10=8, 1d20+5+1+1=25, 1d10=1)

OOC: Targetting green drudge with both arrows if the first one missed, so that Salazar can get some temp HP. I added the prime shot bonus (first time!) to both rolls even though Kalad and Ravenblade are an equal number of squares from the drudges. Was that correct? Ravenblade runs to W13.

Mal keeps the piece of paper in his clenched fist as he runs.

Ravenblade makes quick work of both drudges. Arrows bury them selves into the orcs' necks and they fall down dead. As the cursed orc falls, Salazar feels a temporary surge of strength.

Hedoni stays put and gains a moment of clarity and some health.

Kalad says to Ravenblade "Nicely done. I'll wait here in case more show up, but we've got to get a move on."

The steaming water rises another 5 feet. As the hot water surrounds Daggoth, he feels the burn. Although his armor absorbs some of the heat damage, the fighter still takes 9 fire damage.

"Crap hot ow crap ow crap shit hot hot" blurts out Daggoth as the hot water starts to envelop him.

Running as hard as he can he even uses his axe as a makeshift paddle to help propel him along in the ever rising water.

With a double run, treating the water as difficult terrain, I should be able to make it to Z6.

Mal looks back again and sees that everyone seems to be keeping ahead of the water now. He decides to take a shorter route by jumping over a corner and makes it to the stairs.

Move Action: Double Move Run with Jump over Y12 Move to R18

Jump Check: Athletics result/5 squares across (one fourth of THAT for height clearance). If the height difference of X13 to Z11 is more than a foot, I won't attempt the jump.

Athletics Long Jump (+10 skill, +1 24hr) (1d20+11=23)

OOC: Mal runs to the stairs, making a jump over the corner. Result of 23 on Athletics check gives 4.6 squares of length to the jump, which means 1 square of height (it doesn't specify, but I imagine that you can take LESS than that for length). If I would have to jump that far, I don't jump and just run to S16.

Daggoth struggles through the hot water, at takes another 10 fire damage. He starts to develop some very serious burns on his legs and feet. (At this pace, Daggoth is still going to have to take at least two more rounds of fire damage from the boiling water. First when the water rises after Kalad's turn and again at the beginning of Daggoth's turn.)

No more orcs appear from the tunnels that are still open.

Mal runs and jumps to arrive quickly at the base of the ladder.

Nodding to Salazar as he passes him by, Ravenblade proceeds calmly towards the foot of the stairs down, placing himself purposefully to block the tunnel opening. He then switches back to his craghammers and adopts a defensive stance.

"I'll keep this corridor clear from further unwanted guests, while you guys dash by. Daggoth, so you know, these glowing boots of mine have been activated and permit me to stand on liquid surfaces as if they were stone. If needed, I could always carry you to safety." he finishes with a grin, speaking to Hedoni and Daggoth one landing below.

OOC: Does that mean he won't make it to move his next turn? I guess I didn't understand the damage pattern before. Wouldn't it have been much better for him to swim across, then and have me and Hedoni and Salazar, presumably drag him up the stairs?

Or heck, just drag him now instead of my regular movement that I just did?
