Daggoth swings his waraxe. It does 7 damage to the drake, but the it misses the fey. The fighter draws from deep reserves of strength, takes some comfort from Mal's presence, and the bleeding at his ankle stops (he regains 17 HP, +2 def). Finally, the swings loosens up his neck muscles and the twinge in his nerve goes away.

Hedoni first dismisses the freezing storm and then teleports into where the cold mist had been a moment before (I assume Hedoni did not enter the freezing cloud and so he used a minor action to dismiss it first.) He then directs his anger at Raneor and his pet. The two are struck hard by the icy beam, and once again the fey knight absorbs the damage to his loyal animal. Raneor takes 18 damage and both become immobilized.

OOC: Before addressing Ravenblade's actions, I'm going to wait to let Viktor clarify the damage rolls on the Evasive Strike and Jaws of the Wolf. Both of those damage rolls don't work with a +1 lightening craghammer in one hand and regular craghammer in the other. Also, I assume the move action to K9 was a hold over from the last post. Also, it would be helpful if you could place the list of your actions in your stat block in the order you do them. For example I guessed that the order here would have been standard, then AP standard, then move, then minor. It was a little confusing. Thanks.

Also, everyone remember, if you want any of this damage to be non-lethal, specify it.

OOC: Sorry about my post, I was a bit in a rush. I also forgot to do the two strikethroughs I noticed. Okay, now to address you concerns.

The move action should read: "move to J11 if green spitting dragon is dead"

The evasive strike damage roll should have technically been 2d8+4+6 to take Brutal 2 into account (only the lightning craghammer is used for this power since it doesn't require two weapons). If you click on the link you can see that the actual rolls were an 8 and a 10 (which would technically have been a 6+2 and an 8+2). Since neither a 1 or a 2 were rolled for both rolls of the attack, I guess the brutal wouldn't come into effect and require a reroll.

Regarding the second jaws of the wolf damage roll: I made the same mistake as with evasive strike. It should have read: 2d8+4+5 instead of 2d10+6. If you click on the link you will see that the rolls were a 10 and a 5, so again brutal 2 would not come into effect necessitating any rerolls. However, one damage less is done due to the +5 instead of +6, but half of that missed damage roll is still 10 (half of 20 instead of half of 21).

So, if I am not mistaken in this super-longwinded analysis the final damage outcomes remain the same. 29 damage on blue spitting drake and 33 damage on green spitting drake.

Finally, all of Ravenblade's damage is lethal damage.

My apologies again for the confusion. I wish craghammers weren't so confusing with their brutal 2 property, not to mention having one magical and one plain version. Maybe I'll have Ravenblade switch to dual waraxes instead, if only to avoid all this hassle. His weapon will then reflect his portrait too. ;)

Ravenblade smashes the blue spitting drake and does enough harm to the animal to prevent it from ever spitting again, or ever breathing again for that matter. After gliding to his new spot, he follows his allies example (it might be the irritation from having to fight such a cad or perhaps it is just that there is alot of pent up energy in this group from not smashing anything for a while?); he too draws from a deep well of inner strength to strike again. Ravenblade gains 4 HP from being near Mal. Then, the ranger hammers the other spitting drake heavily for 33 damage. The beast is oozing yellowish blood from several severe wounds, but it is still on its feet.

The spitting drake shifts away from Mal and Ravenblade and sends some more acidic spittle at the dwarf for 6 damage.

Initiative: Status
Raneor: down 50, marked, immobilized, bloodied, HQ
Daggoth: 25/43, +2def
Hedoni: 32/32
Ravenblade: 29/42
Blue spitting drake: dead
Green spitting drake: down 37, bloodied
->Mal: 31/35, marked
Salazar: 40/40, con
Guard drake: down 45, marked, cursed, bloodied, immobilized

"Daggoth, you are not going to fall because of this petty conflict." Mal says as he manuevers behind Raneor. "Ok, Raneor, you are surrounded, hurt, and your drakes are dead or dying. Give up NOW!" As Mal bellows this, he feels another sting.

Minor Action: Improved Inspiring Word (Daggoth gets Healing Surge +1d6+3 HP)

Improved Inspiring Word (1d6+3+12=19)

Move Action: Move to J11

Standard Action: Intimidate Raneor

Intimidate check (+9 skill, +1 24 hr) (1d20+10=29)

OOC: I heal Daggoth for 19 HP, bringing him to full, then move to give Daggoth flanking and Intimidate Raneor with a roll of 29 (almost critical intimidate). I also take 4 damage. Hopefully that will stop this battle.

The force of Mal?s words his the fey knight hard. The reality that he and his animals are close to death, or at the very least, of being utterly defeated suddenly hits him. Raneor surrenders angrily ?I cannot believe a hired bunch of disheveled, low-class delinquents bested me. Fine, what is it that you want of me??

The group gains 786 experience.

Ready to strike the last spitting drake at the first sign of aggression, Ravenblade cautiously lowers his craghammers ever so slightly.

"Are you daft?!? We told you before you attacked us that you have two choices. Leave the city permanently or die. You almost died by our hand here, since you attacked us. If our Commander didn't have our respect, you would still die if it were up to me. If not by us, then the Baron who will send more to kill you. So, what will it be, permanent exile or an imminent meeting with the Raven Queen?"

Daggoth gives Mal a pat on the shoulder as thanks for healing him so quickly, although he was still a little disoriented. It's quite a shock to go from nearly dead to without a scratch within a matter of seconds. Gathering his wits he turns to Raneor.

"Be out of the city by dawn. This still leaves you some hours to get your affairs in order. Hopefully you have a man here in the city you can trust to handle any loose ends. We are not here to destroy your house or plunder your belongings, and if your bride to be truly cares for you she will understand and follow you. I know my words are no comfort at all at this time, but good luck."

To his comrades, Hedoni says "By the by, where's Taff? We'll have to tell him, and the Baron, something tonight, even if it's not exactly the truth."

Raneor shoots at Ravenblade a hard look. He says nothing, but from his expression, the eladrin is thinking hard about all his options.

"Well, Ravenblade," Salazar tells the dwarf, "Raneor here knows we aren't to be trifled with, and if he goes against the Baron's wishes, I'm sure the Baron would see fit to hire us again to follow up on the task."

Salazar shoots his cousin a look, hoping Mal and his town guard cadet ways wouldn't counter the threat implied in the mage's words.

Catching the malevolence in Raneor's look, Ravenblade responds to Salazar, "This man does not look nearly as cowed as you might think. Hmmmmm....I'm not sure the mere threat of death and dismemberment is a strong enough motivator for him."

Looking at Mal incredulously, "Time? TIME!!! Mal, first you condemn the man for his actions and now you defend him because you don't have the stomach to do what needs to be done! He should have taken time to think before making Y'lin pregnant and then treating her cruelly! THAT was life altering!!! He DOES NOT have the right to think about things now when he didn't excercise that right before! Raneor does not seem to be the type of man that will use any extra time given to him for the purpose of seeking wisdom! More likely he will try to plot our deaths! I say we either kill him now or ensure that he exiles himself by telling his bride to be what a charming man he is. With ALL the ladies!"

With that, Ravenblade clenches his fists around his still drawn craghammers in preparation to do what is necessary. He shakes his head again in disbelief that Mal and Daggoth, of all people, are treating this man with scruples when he has shown none.

Pulling Ravenblade aside and baring his teeth, while hissing through them, Mal responds, "Dwarf, you are testing my nerves. I do not defend the man's actions. However, there is just one person innocent here, and that is the child produced by this unfortunate union. Y'lin chose to be with him, knowing there were possible consequences. Hedoni also chose to be with Y'lin and she with him knowing the possible consequences. You chose to find this man for what? Some gold? To protect a not-quite-innocent woman's emotions? And just how far are you willing to go for some gold? You seem awfully ready to kill a man for enjoying a consensual relationship and then jilting the woman. Would you hang Hedoni if the Baron gave you 1000 gold? I allowed myself to be dragged along so that I could make sure this man was provided a choice. A man should not be killed for actions not yet taken. And the only "crime" we know he has committed is in impregnating and jilting the wrong man's daughter. So, yes, if I want to give him a chance to pick his own fate, I will give it to him, because he has earned that much when he chose to stop fighting. You will not stop me from doing so." As he finishes, the tiefling storms to the other side of the room and stares menacingly at Ravenblade.

"You still don't see it, do you Mal? We did give him a choice, and he attacked us! We are still giving him a choice, but he is not readily choosing to stay alive albeit in exile, even though we nearly killed him. He is probably fervently trying to scheme his way out of this situation. Nobody is claiming that Y'lin or Hedoni or the Baron are innocent in any of this. Hedoni however was willing to undergo the paternity ritual and face the consequences of his actions. THAT shows the kind of person he is. Raneor on the other hand, scoffed at us and pronounced how he will be powerful enough soon to do whatever the hell he wants! That was how he faces the consequences of his actions, by thinking he is above them! Pah! You disgust me if you think this is about gold for me! If I had wanted to surround myself with gold and gems I would have stayed in the clan warrens and become a gemsmith! Had we not stepped into this task, Raneor would already be dead by now from one of the Baron's thugs. You may recall my making that point earlier!

Suddenly calming down and speaking intently, "Mal, we do not know each other long, but I believe we know each other quite well, given what we've been through. I am not taking this position to insult your sense of honor and fairness. I am only saying that we have already been fair with Raneor and just because he stopped fighting us, after he started the battle no less, right before we were obviously in a position to end his life does not mean he made some sort of noble choice. It was about mere survival for him. I think we know enough of Raneor by his actions today to judge that he is not trustworthy and even if he says he will leave Overlook, he will probably not. If he chooses to stay and go into hiding, the Baron will eventually find him and kill him. Before that though, we may have died, caught in this feud. I still maintain that we have to end this with definite action. Either by killing Raneor, which to me seems the merciful thing to do, or by ruining the rest of his life and telling his bride and perhaps his family-to-be what he has done to ensure his exile. THAT is the choice he has, although by his quietness he is likely still trying to find another way out of this. Now that we have begun this course, we have the responsibility to finish it through.

Overhearing Ravenblade's suggestion to inform his future bride of his dalliances, Raneor exclaims in near panic "No, I forbid you to say anything of this matter to her or her family. It would ruin me!" He regains some self-control "Besides there is no way you can prove it" he finishes in smug tone.

He continues, seizing on the growing rift between Mal and Ravenblade "Also, it is obvious that you will NOT kill me. First of all, this tiefling's hesitation at even taking up arms against me is speaks volumes of his weak will. Second, you'd all be tried and convicted for murder and end up spending the rest of your days rotting in the Overlook jailhouse. That's why the Baron sent you to do his dirty work."

"Well, you do have an accurate assessment of the situation," Salazar says. "And yes, it would ruin you for your fiancee to hear of this. So that's EXACTLY what we'll do if you don't leave town at dawn tomorrow. I'm sure even the tiefling here would have no hesitation about informing a woman of the truth about the man she's about to marry."

Salazar pauses, then adds, "Hell, now that the idea's in his head, I wouldn't be surprised if he does exactly that, even if you leave town. Honor, and all. But we'll try to talk him out of it if you swear to leave."

Daggoth is sensing that Reneor has regained some confidence in looking at the bickering between Mal and Ravenblade. Daggoth positions himself in front of the smug eladrin.

"The only thing we actually need to PROVE anything is a little bit of your blood"

Daggoth grips his axe tighter, addressing Reneor with a taunting tone.

"So come on, give me an excuse... We wont have to kill you to ruin you."

"Ravenblade, you still do not see it. If a group of heavily armed people came to your home and told you to leave the city of your livelihood...the city where you are to be married...the city you grew up in...or die, would you stand there? Or would you fight for your life? Maybe you wouldn't, but what if it was a forest you were occupying for a while and someone told you that you could never return? If you recall, Hedoni was given the choice to go peacefully and he did not. If we had lost the battle, would those halflings have cared what happened to the rest of us? No. That is where we are different from them. I prefer to give choice to this eladrin and we shall deal with the consequences later."

After hearing what Raneor says, the tiefling whirls around to Raneor, fire in his eyes, and grabs him by the throat, "Do you wish to be killed, fey? You insult the one person trying to give you a choice in the matter? Do not imagine that this is because I will not or have not killed. We could kill you right now and no matter what happened to us, you would still be dead. I choose not to kill you because I believe you should be given a choice in this matter."

Mal drops his hand from Raneor's neck, "And no matter your choice, it is my obligation to tell your bride-to-be of your behaviors. She should know what she is getting into...especially that you will be so reviled by the Baron that he may send assassins into her bedroom constantly. If you truly love this woman, you will choose to leave and I will spare her that information."

Listening to his companions talking to Raneor, Ravenblade begins smiling and finally grins in satisfaction when Mal turns around and realizes the extent of Raneor's bad character. Feeling that he has accomplished what he intended with his words to Mal, albeit thanks to Raneor's stupid boasting, the dwarf puts away his craghammers and begins focusing on his as yet unattended wounds.

As he does so he says in a mollifying tone, "Commander Mal, I am sorry to have had to cross words with. I was attempting to point out how there is no absolute right or absolute wrong in this, or in any matter. There are only actions and that which is caused by them. The measure of a person is whether or not their actions are out of necessity and how they then deal with the result. In any case, I believe you and I have learned different lessons from life and that is why we are both blind in our own ways."

It now seems that Raneor is taking the threat seriously that his future-in-laws might be told about his past with Y'lin. The fey resolves himself to figuring out how to salvage his marriage plans and future business prospects, while quitting the city immediately. He grits his teeth in frustration and then Raneor yells "Enough of this prattle! I get your point. Very well, I will leave the city before dawn tomorrow and arrange my business affairs through a partner. You will mention none of this to my fiance or her family. Now get out before I alert the local authorities."

OOC: Any closing remarks? Otherwise I'll get you back to the Baron to collect your reward.
