Jak stands with Corvan's help. He surveys the carnage that Garrl's bravado had wrought. "You are a fool, Garrl. Arrogant with an ego too large to contain. You're crew lies destroyed around you with nothing to show but you're own weakness and stupidity. The Tower probably only saved your life to execute you as an example."

Garrl stands silently. He glares at Jak, but keeps most of his focus on the Battle Sergeant, as though waiting for the final blow to fall. The Battle Sergeant looks at Koliak, but ignores the confusing things spilling from the shardmind's mouth. He lets his gaze fall on the dead members of the Green Team, and a large frown dominates his features. " What happened here? Tell me now, and tell me truthfully. "

Corvan steps forward to speak and does so succinctly, "We, the Red team were returning after completion of all tasks. Green team waylaid us. I gave all those following Garrl's lead the opportunity to surrender before battle ensued. None accepted.", although he leaves out how glad he was for an excuse to finally attack Garrl.

OOC: I heard from him he'll be back on the posts soon (as in weeks, not months), but nothing more specific. Given that I'm helping play his character, I can do the level up for now and when he gets back you could let him re-choose his feat and utility power.

The Battle Sergeant nods, taking in the statements of Corvan and Koliak. "Anyone else want to speak up before I take this to the Commandant?"

OOC: I actually talked to him yesterday and he said he would do the leveling this week (he hoped). Given that the next adventure won't start until I am back in town Sunday, I would like to give him that chance.

OOC: We will continue this evening, but I am still waiting for most char sheets. I only have Jak and Hammer. Also, given that Nathan has not leveled Tchort, Viktor or Gary, could you do it? Nathan will have the option to change it once he is back. We could also leave Tchort behind for the next adventure, but given that he is the only leader, that is probably less than optimal.

Dwimmerlaik's wounds disappear, and he somehow looks a bit more graceful than before.

I've updated my stat block below. I took Ethereal Stride for my power (encounter teleport) and Practiced Killer for my feat (assassin multiclass, acrobatics training, ki focus proficiency, and an encounter weapon damage bonus). The PDF is also updated. And I'm using Song of Rest to heal up to 29/29 HP and 4/7 surges.

More or less under guard, the group proceeds back to the Shadow Tower, following the Battle Sergeant, who is holding Garrl in a tight grasp. Arriving back on the grounds, the guards herd you straight to the Commandant's Tower. Again sitting in the waiting area you found yourselves occupying just this morning, you wait, this time on Garrl and the Battle Sergeant, who enter the Commandant's chambers alone. Time passes, though stunned as you are by the day's events, you are unsure how much. A guard enters the room and summons Ret into the meeting. The halfling gives a bit of a sniffle and a weary glance at the floor before moving off. Finally, the doors open again, and the Battle Sergeant emerges, holding a bundle in his arms. "Ret told us the truth, and you have all been found innocent in the deaths of members of the Green Team. By right of battle and custom of the Tower, this belongs to you." He tosses the bundle at Corvan's feet, turns his back on you, and starts walking toward the exit. "Oh, and the Commandant will see you shortly." He leaves you sitting by yourselves, waiting.

Ignoring some of his companions' stares, Corvan bends down and opens the bundle to examine the contents. He then looks up at the retreating back of the Battle Sergeant, a grim smile tickling the corner of his mouth.

Corvan fumbles through the bundle. A pouch drops out, but his gaze falls on the armor Garrl was wearing, obviously a cut above what Corvan currently has on his person. Holding tightly to the armor, he looks into the pouch, finding a small gem and a couple of healing potions. This obviously represents what the Green Team found during their portion of the Trial.

OOC: The armor is Battle Harness Hide +1. The gem and two potions are communal property, and the gem is worth 250 gold.

Koliak watches Corvan examine the bundle without any emotion visible on his face.

"This should be most beneficial to you, Corvan. Make sure it is a good fit. We should sell the gem and divide it up equally. As much as I disapprove of the current need of the economy and it's value placed on coins, gems, and such, I will need my share just as much as the next farmer, peasant, or noble." states Koliak.

Nodding at Koliak's words, Corvan examines the hide harness, pleased that the Battle Sergeant took the time to clean it up and tighten some of the straps. He replaces his worn hide with the battle harness, feeling its straps and leather strips fit almost perfectly as he hooks and attaches his various weapons and a healing potion. He practices strapping and unstrapping his shield off the back of the harness and is pleased to notice it swivels forward and sideways to slip it out easily. For the next several minutes he draws and sheathes his various weapons, becoming increasingly faster, as he moves from one battle form into another, his moves looking almost theatrical in their display of deadly speed. He stops suddenly and looks around at the rest of the group watching him. "What!? Haven't you ever seen a gladiator practice before." he says, the first thought coming to his mind, and then frowns remembering his enslavement and the arenas they put him through.

OOC: Taking one healing potion, unless everyone objects.

Sensing an awkward silence, Tchort decides to speak up and attempt to relieve some of the tension in the air. "Honestly, no. I do believe you've been sandbagging on us." We all knew you were fast, but that's otherworldly.

OOC: I am sorry about going AWOL on everyone. It's been a rough and incredibly frustrating several weeks. For instance, last Thursday a cheap solder job someone inadvertently tugged on took $500,000+ worth of equipment offline.

Dwimmerlaik looks at the healing potion with disdain. If the fey were done toying with him, he would die. If not, he would not. That was all there was to it.

OOC: I'm fine passing on the healing potion. Doesn't fit Dwimmerlaik idiom, and with Unnatural Vitality I can always Second Wind after dropping below 0.

Glad you're back Nathan. Sorry about the tough time.

As you sit waiting, the doors open once more, and a guard beckons you in. You enter the private study of the Commandant, and he sits behind his large wooden desk waiting for you. As the doors close behind, the guard steps out of the room, leaving you in privacy. "Congratulations, Red Team. You have passed the trial. You have been accepted into service of the Shadow Tower. How did you find the Trial?"
