If everyone delineates their MBA rolls for you, you'll be making all those rolls like we do in other games.
What does that entail? I give him the stats of my MBA and he rolls it on his turn to keep the pace of the battle from getting bogged down?

One thing I do in the games where our leader grants attacks is have the die rolls for MBA in my statblock. For instance, in the statblock I creataed for Corvan I have a sub-section called "Basic Attacks" that would allow Nathan to just cut and paste what he needs. Of course, with Corvan things might get a little tricky depending on which weapon he's currently wielding, but in most cases he'll have a hand free so I used the Unarmed rolls.

Interesting. I think the stat block I made has the MBA separated out.

Quick update.

pdf link (7MB)

Clearly an incomplete background. Work in progress, but sleepytime is now.

Tchort had no surname. Well, he did at one time, but seeing as his family had handed him over to the Tower, he figured he didn’t need to keep it. It wasn’t easy to get banished from Tiefling society for sadistic cruelty, but he had managed at the age of 13. A perverse part of him sincerely hoped his father had sold him for a sizable sum of money, as opposed to simply dumping him for free. That was a small part however, as he thought of his father rarely. Generally when updating his list. Well, there was the list and The List. There was going to only be one way off the latter.

Tchort truly was incredibly loyal to his friends, all zero of them. He tended to break people into a few categories: adversaries, subordinates, the ignorable/worthless, and so forth. His first week at the Tower served as a good example of this method. Somewhat overwhelmed and surrounded by bigger, stronger, and older students, he tried to stay out of the way until he understood the power structure between the students. Well, even the craftiest folks can fail, and he was singled out by two older students for “special attention”. Fortunately, a brutally simple minded construct calling himself Hammer came to his rescue. The adversary list increased by two, as did The List. Talking to Hammer, it was clear the simpleton just needed a few suggestions. A slight push this way, a little tug that way, and he would be malleable. Malleable, and, more importantly, loyal.

At first, Tchort concentrated upon the students just a bit larger or older than him… they were much smaller than Hammer.

Ok, so I just read the opening chapters of Enders Shadow and I'm a little startled at how close my backstory parallels the book O_o

It just goes to show that it is a pretty good set-up for character development ;)

I like the pic, it's appropriately ruthless looking.

Alright then, I'll make the tokens now that I've got all the pics. What's our start date?

I think it is either Chort or Ta-chort. Or maybe all t's are silent and it is Chore. Btw, I don't think Hammer has the Intelligence to pronounce the name. Maybe he will just call everyone Bob. :)

Here's the statblock with the level 1 pdf embedded in the PC name. I enabled several weapon rolls to show for the power cards, although it only shows ones for single or dual wielding attacks (shield power attack/damage rolls only show when a shield is equipped). Also, the new Master of the Fist feat isn't on the online CB yet, show I left the assassin multiclass feat for now. Just know that Corvan doesn't actually have the shadow step power and that his unarmed strike attacks should be +8 to hit instead of +7 (I've listed the correct attack values within the statblock under Items).

Lastly, for those who don't yet know, we can now insert our own portrait images into the online CB files instead of using one of their stock images. Adding multiple house feats is now also possible (or at least has become so once the trick is used to add at least one house feat).

I've found that you don't need to transfer the file to and fro to add a house feat. I was able to add the house feat after forcing an un-true instance in regard to feat eligibility. For example: as I was choosing which domain feat to take pertaining to the different deities, whenever i chose a domain feat, then switched the deity that didn't have the domain in it's portflio; the feat would remain, only changed to a house ruled feat. This made the house ruled option available and I was able to change it to the weapon expertise feat.

Originally, I wanted to go with Abaddon, but that's apparently already the name of a very heavy hitter in one (or more) of the D&D cosmologies. Tchort is Russian for black devil, or friend of devil, (also stand in for English Satan), and I'm imagining it pronounced similar to "chort" with the cho similar to the word chore. The T in front adds a "t" click to the front as when one tries to say tzar. Try saying "short" with a t in the front - tshort :D

If we could work out how Tchort and everyone else got along in the tower, that would be great. Corvan and Jax look like either prime candidates for recruitment or, if turned down, dislike. Corvan might be a bit old to fall under Tchort's sway, and that would lead to some mild dislike, but since he's strong and dangerous, grudging respect.

Koliak has a problem  . Far too smart, and not overly tough to boot. That's a prime target for getting picked on and having lunch money taken. Too smart to want in the gang... Scott, I'll let you decide how successful any attempts were. Lots of options from always escaping to beginning part of Shashank Redemption bad.

Gary, Dwimmerlaik looks like something best avoided and silently feared. Let me know if you disagree or have other ideas.

I like the idea of a having some loose emotional connections between the characters prior to starting.

Corvan's primary driving motive is vengeance. If his and other's goals are to get back at the people of his past, then they'll get along fine. He's in his thirties and has been through a civil war, on the losing side, then enslavement so yeah, he's not going to be charmed to be an obedient puppy. He's also a tactician so there are sure to be some fun interactions between him, Tchort, and Koliak during battles since all three of them are big on movement effects.

Dwim already tasted vengeance before so he and Corvan will likely find common ground.

Jak and Corvan were both slaves before, so they share that distaste in common, and both would die before being enslaved again I reckon.

Corvan would mostly ignore Hammer, since he's clearly just a soldier following orders. If Hammer bothers Corvan, then he'll go for the snake's head (Tchort) instead of the instrument.

These are meant to be very general ideas for interactions and not intended as declarations of animosity. We haven't actually played together yet, so we'll see how things develop.

Feel free to have as many loose or tight connections with each other as possible. Think of yourselves as members of the senior class of a private school; you would all know each other to some extent, or at least pass in the halls.

Scott, do I have your char sheet? I am still missing Nathan's. I have Viktor's, Gary's, Josh's, and Dan's. Once I have everything, I am good to start, and there will be a period of role-play get to know you up front, so if you aren't completely done with wish-lists and the like, that is ok. Viktor, when you are done with tokens, if you can send them to me, that would be fantastic.

Finally, does everyone know what theme you are going to take? That will happen fairly early on, so it would be great if you are all ready on that so it doesn't slow down the game a la level gaining.

Jak will be taking the Ordained Priest Theme. Depending on how Tchort behaves outside of his interactions with Jak will be what puts truth or lie to how he behaves to Jak. If it is positive, then Jak would be happy to work within the crew.

Given the background stuff Jon wrote about the Shadow Tower, which I only really read just now, it may be better for Corvan to be part of the teaching corp at the tower since he's older and experienced. He could have been hired as a substitute teacher for the Battle Sergeant (martial arts instructor), although Corvan only carries around six weapons at a time and not ten.
