You attacked us because you thought we have something you want, just like the Claw attacked us because they thought we had something they wanted. If you are the same in that way and the Claw has no honor, then where is your honor!?" Lan starts by sounding reasonable and then ends in a challenging tone. He glares for a few moments, then relaxes his face and adds, "Fighting and killing is not the only or even the best answer for most problems, but since you fought us and lost that means you are not worthy to be Chib. I hope you will keep your word and not try attacking us again or make others attack us, so that you might reclaim some of your honor."

OOC: I've got nothing to ask really, but figured we should make a show of our intentions and behavior in case some wordbearers are watching us from hiding. I think to recall they are the ones we should be aiding in all this.

You get the feeling that Chib Naersaar is more or less uninterested in what you have to do if it does not involve the Ashen Crown, and he seems to have bought your lie.

"Would you be so kind as to tell me anything you know of the warforged in the area?"

OOC: Sentinel will ask questions such as how many he's observed, if any are currently nearby, etc. I doubt our new friend will want to discuss in depth warforged habits in the area, his feelings towards them, etc, but Sentinel would try so long as the captive wanted to talk.

You find the landmark that Captain Kalaes said to watch for. Beneath the third king, an outcropping of white stone points the way to a dark cavern. As you approach, figures emerge from hiding among the rocks. This band of goblins and hobgoblins resembles those that Kalaes described - they must be the Wordbearers. They don't look happy to see you.

A frowning hobgoblin female in chainmail (pictured, second from left), with a bastard sword slung across her shoulders seems to be the leader. Another hobgoblin in dark leather whispers to her (pictured third from left), giving you a meaningful look. From the tattoos on this hobgoblin's face, and the bejeweled rapier he carries, you recognize him as the doppelganger Citadel agent, Tikulti. In addition, you see the goblin that you rescued from the Emerald Claw a few days ago, Govaan (pictured on left). He nods to you in acknowledgement. Several other hoboblins stand behind the first group.

The leader steps forward and speaks in a deep, feminine voice. "I am Yeraa, leader of these Kech Volaar seekers. Arkantaash belongs to goblinkind. Six Kings belongs to goblinkind. Name your price for Ashurta's Blade, which I believe you have acquired. Then leave this place, and if you desire peace, do not return."

Uncharacteristically, Sentinel moves forward and speaks first. Perhaps, being the blade bearer, he feels responsible. He uses his knowledge of ancient hobgoblin honor systems in an effort to force Yeraa to accept his right to the blade, while hinting at the possibility of handing it over the blade in the near future. He hopes that giving Yeraa an opportunity to prove herself by teaming up will prevent an immediate conflict.
"I am Sentinel, representative of the Library of Korranberg. My companion and I are here to gather research on warforged living in the area. We have contracted with these three for protection, and sadly it was needed. We want no trouble, although we’ve encountered our fair share already as Govaan can attest. We seek warforged living in the region so I can interview them for our research. At this point, it seems pointless to lie. We did contest with Ashurta and his personal guard, and gave them their long sought rest. He was a noble and true warrior. A fine hobgoblin worthy of song and renown. His blade will not be tarnished by being traded in simple barter to a stranger. It was entrusted to us personally by Ashurta. It was not given to “goblinkind”. Until a goblinoid shows themselves worthy of the blade, it remains with us.

That said, I am a student of history, and would consider returning the blade to one proven worthy in a fair and honorable exchange. Until then, I am simply looking to fulfill my mission for the Library. We have been plagued by The Emerald Claw recently, and they are making our research difficult. I would be interested in preventing that foul organization from accomplishing whatever they seek in this region. We know a most powerful necromancer is acting in the region, and it would be safest to join forces to stop her. She will attempt to take Arkantaash by force.

Yeraa listens to Sentinel's story very carefully. "I am impressed. You speak with honor and knowledge of our history. It is a good thing you did, laying Ashurta to rest and accepting the blade out of respect for the warrior. You are correct, the blade should not simply be passed from one to another. I was not aware of this respect. Most denizens of Khorvaire would not should similar respect to goblinkind." She bows her head a little at Sentinel as she finishes. She looks over Lan as he seems prepared to protect Sentinel, but says nothing. Yeraa grins a little bit as she listens to Kurvilis stutter.

As Geen discusses his own knowledge of the ancient Dhakaani of the Six Kings region, Yeraa acknowledges, "You honor our ancestors by learning about them. Thank you." You get the distinct sense that the Kech Volaar feel almost abused in having been lumped in with other goblin tribes. Finally, as Khav almost threatens Yeraa, her back stiffens a little, "Yes, Govaan has told us of your prowess in battle. And also that you willingly fight for the life of an unknown goblin over the life of some humans. You do not look at the skin of a person and decide good or evil. In addition, you demonstrated great ability in Ashurta's tomb in order to win the blade and put Ashurta to rest." Rather than feel particularly threatened, Yeraa seems almost pleased what Khav has said.

"It appears we are in a bit of an impasse. The Emerald Claw and Kech Shaarat want Ashurta's sword. You want it as well, but haven't tried to kill us yet, so that endears you to me. Perhaps a clever person can think of a way to build trust."

Lan turns his head to Sentinel, paying close attention to his words.

OOC: Lan has +12 diplomacy, insight, and bluff. I'll do an insight roll, which will be +14 with Sentinels aid success. Gary, if you want to aid insight as well, I'll wait. Next round I can roll an insight aid for Geen, which is an automatic aid. Also, if you guys can improvise well with a secondary skill you're good at, Josh may allow it to pass.

Khav seems to catch that the other goblins might almost think it insulting to require help from non-goblins. Sentinel also noticed that Yeraa seemed a little nervous when he implied working together against a "powerful necromancer."

Lan steps forward and says to Sentinel, "If I may. I have handled negotiations of this sort before." When Sentinel moves his head a little, likely in confusion at the stated question, Lan takes it as a nod and addresses Yeraa by first putting his fist to heart in the Dhaakani gesture of sword brothers that they learned in Ashurta's tomb.

"You are right, we are not a typical group of Khorvaire people and have no desire to allow our fears and prejudices of other races prevent a greater understanding. You see before you myself and the others, a warforged, a gnome, a wilden, and a half-orc. What Sentinel says is true that we entered Ashurta's Tomb and were tested and found worthy by the great warrior himself. As you do today, so did he see us for who we are. Not hobgobilns, but who we are on the inside and the value of our hearts and battle prowess. He did not find it shameful that we were not his descendants or that we joined forces to fight him and his honor guard together. He understood that to lead, you must make alliances. There is no shame in working together, whether it's with your fellow hobgoblin or a group as different as us. Know that the Emerald Claw are our enemy and they are also your enemy. That makes us friends before our common enemy."
