Brief Summary of the Adventure So Far (10/22/13) The Light's Shadows take a few minutes to reflect upon past events.....

They recall how most of them met for the first time in the Nentir Vale's capital city of Fallcrest, each of them traveling there with premonitions of dark tidings to come. The council of Fallcrest tasked them with traveling to the Nentir Vale's westernmost village called Winterhaven to find out what has been disrupting trade and to locate a missing relic of the Platinum Order of Bahamut called the desideratum. The Lord of Winterhaven asked Light's Shadows to discover the cause of recent kidnappings. The party soon found clues about an evil cult located at the Keep on the Shadowfell in the mountains overlooking Winterhaven. After several trials and grueling battles, the party confronted the necromancer Kalarel, who was also a priest of Orcus, at the Shadowfell Rift underneath the Keep. Kalarel was defeated, stopping his mass raise undead ritual for the entire Nentir Vale, and he was sucked into the Shadowfell rift. Edeya found a mystical rod that Kalarel was using. The rod transformed into a greatbow at her touch, but has been plaguing her with disturbing visions ever since. Upon leaving the Keep, a mysterious woman calling herself Lightshade reveals herself, but her intentions are unclear. The village of Winterhaven lauds the party as heroes, but asks yet another favor. Many villagers, including a young orphan girl name Anna who befriended Corydimbiddle, were rounded up in past months and taken as slaves by a group called the Bloodreavers. Tracks and clues suggest they traveled east to Thunderspire Mountain and the new heroes were asked for help.

And so Light's Shadows traveled east as well and entered the underground caverns beneath Thunderspire Mountain. There they found the Seven-Pillared Hall, a ramshackle city of halflings, humans, duergar, and other denizens. They befriend the Halfmoon, halfling family, who owns the Halfmoon Inn. They found out that the rule of the Seven-Pillared Hall is that of the Mages of Saruun who act as judges and executioners. One of the Mages of Saruun, Orontor, asks the party for help in finding out what happened to an expedition of mages that included his apprentice Paldemar. The party agreed to help as clues pointed to slavery in the Labyrinth of Thunderspire Mountain and that is what the mages of Saruun were also investigating. The party finds the headquarters of the Bloodreavers and frees some of the Winterhavian slaves. They discover that the Bloodreavers were selling slaves to a the duergar clan Grimmerzhul.
The party hires Terrlen Darkseeker to guide them to the Horned Hold where the Grimmerzhul clan reside. Unbeknownst to them, Terrlen was ambushed and replaced by the cleverly disguised, mysterious woman Lightshade. Lightshade led the party into an ambush where hundreds of gnolls and hyenas, as well as a black dragon harried the party through and ancient fortress. Lightshade fell into the depths below and the party barely managed to survive by detonating half the fortress, driving off the black dragon. Continuing their trek, the party reaches the Horned Hold, finds the leader of Grimmerzhul clan, and slays him, thereby freeing most of the other Winterhavian slaves, including Anna's now blinded grandfather Eilian. However, Anna, and several other children, were reportedly taken away for some dark ritual.
Eventually, Light's Shadow finds the location of the dark ritual, deep underground in a vast lake. There they discover the missing mages of Saruun and missing children, including Anna. The life energies of the mages were being siphoned off into a whirling, vortex of necrotic energies. Whenever a mage was about to die, life energy was transferred to them from a kidnapped child to sustain the mages. Acting swiftly, the party engaged the dark creatures siphoning off the life energy and also confronted dozens of giant bronze minotaur statues. The party's intervention garnered the attention of Paldemar who swooped down on the same black dragon they confronted before. It became clear that Paldemar betrayed the other Mages of Saruun and was trying to unleash a force of undead upon the entire Thunderspire Mountain. Paldemar also made allusions to knowing about Light's Shadow from a colleague of his in Winterhaven, who likely was Kalarel. With luck, skill, desperation, and a little help from a stranger named Narg, Light's Shadows thwarted the vortex ritual and barely escaped the ensuing tidal wave and wrath of the black dragon. Paldemar seemingly was swallowed by the tidal wave.
The newcomer Narg decided to join Light's Shadows on their return to the Seven-Pillared Hall. During one of Edeya's next visions through her greatbow, Narg was also present due to a green orb he had picked up. Both of them saw that Paldemar yet lived and was conspiring with a gnoll leader named Maldrick Scarmaker in a place called the Well of Demons. Paldemar noticed Edeya's ethereal presence and was about to quench her life when Narg was somehow able to use the green orb to intervene. After that, Light's Shadows decided to finish off Paldemar, knowing he just no good for the Nentir Vale.

They travel to the Well of Demons, this time guided by the real Terrlen Darkseeker. After a few skirmishes with gnolls, the party enters the well of demons and gains the trust of three long-dead spirits, Valdroga, Sir Terris, and Mendara. The three have been dead for countless years, ever since the shortly after the time of the Ancient Minotaur Empire of Saruun Khel. They reveal that the Well of Demons is actually a Proving Grounds for worshipers of Baphomet. In order to pass the trials, you must find four items: a knife, a bell, a mask, and a book. The party already found the book on the corpse of a gnoll priest. The other three items are within the chambers around the well of demons. Once all four items are found, they must be placed on arcane circles in the well of demons simultaneously. Doing so will unlock the inner sanctum where Maldrick Scarmaker and Paldemar likely are located. However, unlocking the inner sanctum will also call forth the Guardian of the well of demons. The three spirits were slain by the guardian hundreds of years ago and can only tell you it it a large beast with talons as long as men, fangs as sharp as swords, and a tail as fast as lightning.
