And so the fellowship of Light's Shadow departs Winterhaven, heading towards the hub of the Nentir Vale; Fallcrest. The journey is uneventful. Harkin proves invaluable in his ability to track the hobgoblin band moving east and one day he even explains that one set of human tracks is likely that of a small child. Corydimbiddle's spirits rise at the news and he helps the druid with is tracking by successfully tweaking his scentinator. Azad spends most of her time reading through one of two books; "A Tale of Two Empires" and "The Rise and Fall of the Nerath Empire". Every now and then she has a dreamy look on her face for some reason. Edeya and Demuriath speak little with each other during the journey.

Finally arriving in Fallcrest, you don't tarry and stay just long enough to resupply at the Halfmoon Trading House and let a few people know you came through and where you're heading. Onward you go to the Thunderspire....

Passing beyond the Minotaur Gate, you enter the Road of Lanterns which slopes into the mountain. Green light from copper lanterns dimly illuminates the road, which leads about half a mile into the mountain, sloping steadily downward over several switchbacks. The road is a brick-vaulted passage, 30 feet wide and 30 feet tall at its apex. Seventy-seven demon statues, each over 10 feet tall, stand watch along the corridor’s length.

A few minutes into the mountain Edeya misses a step as her mind is assailed with images.

  •  For Edeya
    • Suddenly things shifts around you. Startled you look around to find that you are surrounded with legions of walking dead and snarling demonic beasts, climbing the mountain side, but nobody seems to take notice of you – as if you were not there, or as if you were seeing the events play out in front of you like a dream. In front of the hordes you see bleeding and wounded minotaurs being slaughtered by the relentless hordes of undead and demons. Their shrill cries of anguish, pain and doom meets no mercy, and their large fur-clad bodies are trampled upon by the marching hordes.

None of the others seem to notice and after shaking her head once, Edeya continues on, albeit a little shaken. The path splinters into numerous passages a some way into the mountain. A wide tunnel with several smaller tunnels leading off it seems to cut a path toward the mountain’s deep center. As you make your way, you notice light spilling from a partially open door a short way down one of the side passages.

  •  Edeya, Corydimbiddle, and Harkin hear something.
    • You hear coarse laughter and guttural voices up ahead. A rough voice, speaking Common, says, “You’re ours now, halfling. We’ll easily get ten gold for you!” Another voice responds: “That’s a shame, ’cause I’m worth twenty. I’ll buy myself if you let me go.”

At his sister's urging, Demuriath sneaks forward to peek through the partially open doors. He sees four hobgoblins wearing scale armor, heavy shields, and flails near the entrance. There's a pretty beaten up looking halfling slumped on the floor by the northern wall. He's looking up towards the right and Demuriath sees another pair of boots a past the barrels and by a table, but he can't make out who is standing there since the barrels block most of his view. He silently moves back to the others and informs them of what he sees.

Edeya moves down the corridor to where she can see what's going on. She notches her bow with a spark of fire and sends it the middle hobgoblin. Edeya isn't worried if Azad gets a little singed in the process.

Standard: Elemental Spirits hits AC 28 on Hobgoblin B for 18 fire damage. Until the end of my next turn, any creature that starts its turn adjacent to the target takes 4 fire damage. 24h; on Hobgoblin B (1d20+10+2=28, 1d12+7=18 )

Azad collects herself, preparing for the further onslaught to come, then a flash of pale light strikes all the hobgoblins, drawing their attention to the tiefling even further. Finally, her blade lashes out, striking at the wounded enemy.

"You shall fall! You cannot prevail against Light's Shadow!"

Minor action - Psionic Vigor to gain 9 temp HP.

Minor action - Paladin's Wrath to apply my Divine Sanction to all enemies within 5 squares.

Standard action - Enfeebling Strike against B.

Enfeebling Strike B (24H) (1d20+10+2=23, 1d8+5=10)

Hits AC 23 for 10 damage and on a hit, the target takes a –2 penalty to attack rolls until the end of my next turn.

Might use Blurred Step if a hob tries to get past me.

Edeya wonders what in the world the halfling is doing here. He appears to be at odds with the hogoblins. Then she sets her sights on the wounded enemy and if that fails, she sends another arrow his way.

Azad moves back into the room and tries to slash at one of the hobgoblins. Her blade goes well wide. Nonetheless, she focuses her will on the one Demuriath is holding off and draws that foes attention to herself.

Standard action - Valorous Smite against C.

Hits AC 11 - Natural 1 misses - for 21 damage and on a hit, each enemy within 3 squares of Azad is subject to her divine sanction until the end of her next turn.

Harkin growls at the hobgoblins as he shifts into his beastly shape. He charges the one between Azad and Demuriath, pouncing on it. Azad notices that the wooden bark protection falls off as Harkin settles down.
