Salazar has heard of the substance called Perennial Regret. It is made from the tears of aged spinsters of good family, who have lived long lives of impeccable virtue and die without ever having had a day of true happiness.

OOC: You'll need a heal skill roll to know about the fever.

"Hmmm..."

Hedoni doesn't think he knows anything about the ailment, but digs through his bag of holding for his collection of alchemical reagents on a hunch.

Arcana and Heal checks: (1d20+17+1=32, 1d20+9+1=16)

OOC: As all good mages do, Hedoni carries a collection of alchemical reagents for ritual purposes. Might Perennial Regret be among them?

Hedoni knows quiet a bit about the properties Perennial Regret - its ability to cure compulsive gambling, promiscuity, and Loquatur os pedis. However, Hedoni has never met a spinster, let alone one of great virtue or old age. Also, eladrin spinsters are almost unheard of, which is probably why these people are having a hard time obtaining what they need. Perennial Regret is more often found among human and dwarves, where chastity, homeliness and restraint are more common.

Hedoni isn't really sure about the fever.

OOC: Hedoni does not have any Perennial Regret. Nor do any of you. This will be a minor quest to find some and bring it back to the eladrin.

"I think, Sal, they may mean something more like knowing your mother! Hah! Now, let me look at you guys..." Mal kneels by some of the sick.

Mal has seen these symptoms before in a halfling village he travelled through once. The affliction starts with fever and behavior changes; at first the individual becomes mirthful, erratic, and prone to take odd risks. As the disease progress, the fever subsides, but the risk taking behavior and irrationality gets worse. In final stages of the disease, if the person doesn’t get himself killed by doing something wild and unsafe, they develop seizures and die.

Hedoni checks and rechecks his stash, but turns up none of the substance in question. "Well, it seems I'm fresh out - but we'd be happy to find some - no use seeing someone suffer, and we're always out to help when we can."

Hedoni speaks directly to the Eladrin man, but makes sure Inzira sees his overzealous mannerisms.

Salazar thinks back to the various people they've met during their adventures. He recalls, seemingly ages ago, that one of the people they rescued in Rivenroar was an alchemist, Andronsius the dwarf. He mentions Andronsius to the others, adding "We haven't seen him since he told us about Ravenblade's predicament, but surely Andronsius would help us out, given what we did for him."

Inzira's straightens up in response to Hedoni's offer to help. Her pride shows, "That's very generous of you Hedoni, but I'm sure I can take care of this. You are one of those people who dream of success ... while others wake up and work hard at it." Then she adds "You are of course welcome to rest and sup here before returning to wherever it was you came from."

Daggoth chimes in, in Hedoni's defense.

"Work hard at it you say? Lady, if you knew half the shit we go through on a daily basis you would not be so quick with your sharp little tongue.
How about you swallow some pride and accept a helping hand when offered."

Ravenblade actually cannot tell those with the illness apart from those who are well. In appearance, individuals with more advanced stages of Impetuous Fever seem pefectly healthy. It is only those who know them well, family and friends, who can sense that something is amiss. The personality changes and risk taking behavior progress until the very end when seizures make it obvious the person is sick and not just merely crazy.

Inzira does not take Daggoth's words well. She defends herself, "I am not so proud as to refuse your help, but knowing Hedoni as I do, I will hold on to my skepticism. I will not wait for another to come to my aid. I have lead my people by being resourceful and independent. Also, in my experience most men are like pumpkins. It seems like all the good ones are either taken or they've had everything scraped out of their heads with a spoon.” You can guess which category she thinks Hedoni is in.

Hedoni grows inpatient. "And while you're busy extolling your skills as a leader, there's an outbreak of Impetuous Fever spreading among your people. Let us help, before anyone else gets sick and hurts themselves. Look at it this way: either we fail and you get to prove yourself right or we succeed and your disease is cured. It's up to you."

An eladrin from the peanut galler behind Inzira says "He's right. We can use all the help we can get."

Inzira huffs indignantly "Look, If Hedoni can somehow scrounge up the cure, I will be the first to sing praises to Corellon. Let's just say I'll believe it when I see it. In the mean time, I'll won't be sitting around waiting for some mage in shining robes to rescue us."

You take a meal and rest a while in the eladrin settlement. In general they seem detached from events in the outside world and haven't heard of the battles that took place in Overlook. They seem to have no love for the formorians, but are not in any active disputes with the Stone-skinned Queen or her people.

OOC: So where to now?

Salazar tells his companions, "Let's start with paying a visit to Andronsius. Hopefully he'll have some Perennial Regret, or at least know where to get some."

"Let's go."

Turning to his Eladrin kin, Hedoni adds, "If you could point us toward the closest available portal back, it'd be very much appreciated"

Having been quiet for most of the time at the Eladrin camp, gazing around in wonder at all the fey, Ravenblade stirs. "Hmmmm....let's not go back to Brindol. That would take forever. There was another trail to follow in the area, wasn't there. Something about cyclops slavers. Let's go that way while we're here."

OOC: Moving right along...

Ignoring the cyclops' trail for now, you decide to seek the aid of an alchemist. The eldarin give you instructions on the way back to the portal you originally came through with the wayfinder. It takes a couple days for you to return to Witchcross. You stop in briefly to see Sari and Enrac.

Enrac pulls Mal aside and asks to speak to him alone.
  •   For Mal only
"You wanted me to tell you everything about your father, well there is more that Sari doesn't need to know about. I told you that Thaen Drawlight was a steward in Queen Cachlain’s court, but he had a family there too. He was married to one of the queen’s seamstresses, a half-elf, and had a daughter with her. But he was bored with his marriage and his job; he longed for adventure. Every time the queen would hire a team of adventurers for some job, he'd dream of joining them. So, like I told you, when the opportunity arose he stole one of the queen’s wayfinder, left his wife of ten years, and set out to find his fortune. That's pretty much it.

It takes another couple days to reach Brindol. You head to Andronsius's alchemy shop, but the place is closed. A sign in the window reads "Gone to the Antler and Thistle for lunch."

The story continues here.

OOC: If Mal wants to question Enrac some more, you can post it here.

"I think the wife was called Lilly, but he didn't really like to talk about her. I'm pretty sure he felt guilty for leaving her and the little girl. I don't remember the girl's name. And as for why he worked in the Queen's court, who knows, but everyone's got to have a job. I guess that one didn't suit his nature though."
