I am....what?

Dead?

Yes, that must be it.

Strange.

Why is everything so cold?

What is that rushing noise?

Where is she? My Queen. I felt her...she touched me.

Have I not served well?

You hear an echoing, otherworldly voice speak, while an overwhelming presence fills all around, choking the air. "...Demuriath...as promised...I remembered...She will not be able to save your soul....your are MINE..." This is followed by a cackling howl and laughter, filled with the depths of hell and eternity. You have the uncomfortable feeling that these are not the Halls of the Raven Queen and you have not been brought here by the prayers of a Black Wing. For the first time in many years you experience horrendous fear....fear of what you will see when you open your eyes.

OOC: Hi Jon. This is your transformation thread for Demuriath. He currently doesn't know where he is or what things look like until he opens his eyes. The idea of this thread is that you will face a solo-encounter that will require good RPG and fighting. Demuriath the Avenger is already dead and you are now playing Demuriath the Revenant Assassin. However, you need to prove your worth to the Raven Queen or she may not accept you as her undying servant (not really, since we planned this, but you know what I mean). Feel free to communicate with the evil presence and take your time. The others will be having their own stuff to do in the main thread. I encourage you to avoid that thread for now, since your actions here and their actions there may affect each other, but it will be much cooler if you don't peek until it's all over although you can look one more time to read this post.

Demuriath is unsure what to think. Here he is, about to experience the thing that means the most to him: death, and all he can do is keep his eyes closed in fear. Who was that voice? Where was his Queen? His heart beats wildly... wait... his heart BEATS? Quietly, more afraid than before, Demuriath opens his eyes.

As you open your eyes, your vision is filled with the vastness of eternity in all directions. Your mind is unable to comprehend what it perceives and struggles to makes sense of...anything. It takes several moments before you are able to perceive an imaginary interpretation of what lies before you, in such a way that your mind won't collapse.

You perceive that you may be floating in the middle of somewhere. Every now and then you catch a glimpse of spherical shapes and giant whorls of scintillating clouds. At a thought, you turn around, looking for the source of your terror...the voice...the coldness.

As if in response to your search, you hear it speak again. "...you have been spurned by Her...you are found wanting...rejected...there is another path should you wish it..." You feel certain you are being watched. No! Your soul is being watched. Although you don't yet see the source of this voice, you now recall where you heard it before. In the Cloakwood. After failing to save that messenger.

"Who ARE you? Where is my Queen? What do you mean rejected?" Demuriath's fear begins to turn to anger. This is NOT how it was supposed to be!

"....Ahhhhh....I can feel your anger....your frustration.....don't hold it back...." says the haunting voice.

"....you have been forsaken....Demuriath....all Her promises were lies...." it whispers with cold despair.

"...you have a choice........let go of your past....let go of your unappreciated servitude....join Me instead....serve well and you shall live eternally and be rewarded...." it soothes.

"No, I can't. I must not." Demuriath struggles with his soul. His whole life was spent in devotion to the Raven Queen. "WHO ARE YOU?!?!" He lashes out, anger overcoming him, limbs flailing.

"....Heh-heh-heh...heh.....Yes....let your anger flow through you....let it complete you....soon you will be Mine....." taunts the voice.

As you struggle with your emotions and the rage boiling within, you conitnue looking around frantically. Your mind is able to perceive a two-dimensional plane that you appear to be tethered to within the vastness of this eternal landscape. Looking straight down...or is it up...you see a whirlwind of energies colliding with each other. The longer you look at it, the more it appears to draw you in, threatening to pull you into it's everlasting conflict of forces.

Demuriath struggles with his body, senses, and emotions, but finally, he is able to regain control. (Save vs doubt 1d20+1=16) "You will not have me. My Queen, I am yours!!" He gazes in hatred at the figure below him.

".....NOOOO.....She cannot help you here.....you must submit....." booms the voice in response to your declaration of faith. You now also notice that your skin has changed. Gone is the typical githzerai green complexion, to be replaced by a grayish skin tone. What is happening?

OOC: Save vs Doubt success. +5 to the next attempt.

Your mind continues to struggle as it tries to make sense of what it perceives. Here is...eternity. Here was then. Here is now. Here is yet to be. Frowning as you try to comprehend what it is happening, your eyes focus on four spots around you. You cannot be quite sure, but there appear to be four shadowy figures surrounding you on this plane you are tethered to. They appear to be watching you for the time being.

While you stare at these figures, you have a memory....something....no, someone you knew. It is difficult to remember, but you have flashbacks of a very small, bald, middle-age gnome. He appears to be clanking with the sound of mechanical devices with every step he takes. At the memory, you feel a surge of well-being and confidence that further bolsters your wavering conviction (+2 to save vs doubt, this is in addition to the previous +5).

You clearly remember him. His name was Corydimbiddle. He was your companion in battle, a trusted comrade in arms, even though you only knew him briefly. Yes...you remember now....not just him....there were others as well....a woman.....a priestess....no...a paladin.....

As this recollection comes to you, a powerful vision flashes in your mind....of an endless ocean and a single, tiny island. All around, the waves lap gently against the shore...calmly....soothingly. A white glow is cast over all, coming from the giant full moon. Sehanine....Azad...now you remember her as well. As you remember more, your sense of self restores further, and you know that you yet have a purpose.

OOC: +5 save vs doubt for previous success and +2 from this vision

The moonlight warms Demuriath's soul as he remembers the paladin. His strength bolstered, he knows this reality he sees in front of him is not what his Queen wishes. He suddenly sees it as a cheap parlor trick, but an evil one. save vs doubt (1d20+5+2+1=27)

As you regain more of your composure and most of your doubt is gone, the cold voice booms. "....how are you doing this?....you should not be able to resist....you are forsaken......alone.....rejected...."

Somehow that last word, "rejected", triggers another thought accompanied by a feeling you have denied yourself for many years. Unbidden, an image of a woman comes to mind.

Who is she? She seems....familiar....like someone you should know and about whom you have strong feelings. You think you can also hear a voice now. It sounds a little frantic and filled with worry and maybe even some fear.

"Someone do something!"

Then with some anger...

"Demuriath, stop it! This isn't the way it is supposed to be."

As if being smashed in the head, you remember....everything! Your childhood rejection, your departure from home, your journey in the service of the Raven Queen, reuniting with Edeya after so many years, the rotting fingernail ripping your chest out....wanting to tell Edeya how you feel just before....dying.

With renewed vigor and confidence you stare defiantly at the four shadowy figures around you and see them clearly now. They are hideous creatures of shadow and claw, coldness and death surrounding them. This is not Letherna! These are not the halls of the Raven Queen! Something else is trying to claim your soul. Something opposing your Queen. Something lusting after her extinction.

".....heh, heh, heh....it seems your mind and heart are more resilient than I surmised....no matter.....if you will not serve me willingly, then your corpse will..." says the cold voice. Still looking at the shadowy figures, you tense as you notice they are ready to attack.

Demuriath knows one thing: the evil must be stopped. His Queen would demand it. Armed with that knowledge and the love of his sister and friends, the assassin launches himself into battle.

Free: Assassin's Shroud on Evil, giving 2 shrouds with Killer's Insight
Move: Move adjacent to Evil (not sure where I am on the grid)
Standard: Grave Spike 1d20+9+1=19, 2d12+6=21 Hits 19 AC on Evil (likely a miss) for 21 damage and 5 ogd (save ends) and whenever it takes ogd it falls prone, half damage on a miss. Hit or miss, Demuriath gains +2 to attack rolls vs Evil while shrouds are on it until end of encounter.
Minor: Shade Form, becoming insubstantial and vuln 5 radiant UENT or when Demuriath makes an attack

With renewed faith and determination, you try to focus on the voice. Although you are unable to see where it is coming from, you have a strong sense that the presence of the voice is currently inhabiting one of the shadow figures (1d20+1+1=17 Religion roll). You also have the strange feeling that you've fought this presence before, or at least followers of it, recently.

After placing two shrouds on the possessed creature (Shadow 4), you step closer and strike with your fullblade. As it hits, hundreds of tiny shadow spikes shoot out to lodge themselves in your foe.

OOC: Jon, can you please create and include a new status drop-down when you get the chance. Need to head out to work now, will take the enemy turns later today.

Initiative:
Demuriath: 32/32 (8/8, 2 AP), +2 ATT UEE, insubstantial and vulnerable 5 radiant UENT

"....ha-ha-ha....your feeble attempts are futile....you will die here only to become Mine in the end..." says the cold voice

Then the four shadow creatures make their move. The one you injured seems to hide within a suddenly appearing cloud of shadow that flows in all directions, such that you are not able to stop it. It then solidifies near one of other creatures and a bolt of shadow flies at you, but only injures you for 5 damage thanks to your insubstantial state. You watch in horror as the injured shadow strokes its body and is able to close some of its wounds. Two of the other creatures move into flanking, both rending your flesh with their long claws for 6 and 5 damage each. The last shadow creature moves away a little before charging at you and biting into your arm for 5 more damage.

And then things get worse, as you become unsure of yourself once more and are unable to tell where the evil presence resides.

OOC: Damage already accounts for insubstantiality.

Knowing which way to strike, Demuriath does so.

Gloomthief vs 1 1d20+9+1=19, 2d12+6=18 Hits AC 19 for 18 damage, and on a hit, Demuriath becomes invisible UENT while within 2 squares of the target.

Undeterred and silent as death, you strike out with deadly intent, hitting another shadow creature for 18 damage. The creature somehow manages to retaliate and you take a further 8 damage. As you withdraw your blade, you use the shadow cast by your foe to turn invisible.

OOC: Edit: You forgot the +2 att from Grave Spike, so it was actually 21 vs AC. Also forgot the rataliation damage.
